Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata told IGN at Gamescom that his team is looking to borrow technology from Just Cause 3 developer Avalanche Studios.

“We’re talking to their central technology team based in Stockholm in Sweden about a certain collaboration we might do with them and the Final Fantasy XV team,” Tabata said.

Although these discussions have only just begun Tabata noted that he “got really great hopes for this discussion. What we’re going to be talking about is possibly being able to use their really unique, really high level amazing technology they have in their studio and using it as an add-on to enhance the quality of a certain specific part of our Final Fantasy XV game."

Uhhh... is such a thing normal if the game is within a year of it's completion date?

As much as I like to lambast SE's inefficiency. The people at GAF outing their pitchforks should really look up their vocabularies.
They are borrowing tech from Avalanche, not a game engine. Who knows what that tech is but it 's obviously not a game engine where they are going to go back to zero. That tech would probablh speed up the process than to just create one without technical know hows. Avalanche and SE are closely related anyway so difficulties could be ironed out faster.
