Rumour: PS Vita & PS4 to Get Price Cuts - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 22 May 2015 / 10,984 ViewsOn the official PlayStation retail loyalty site there's an ongoing promotion where members can enter to win a PS4 and a PS Vita, amongst other things. According to the small print for this promotion, Sony lists both PlayStation systems as having lower average retail values (ARVs) than their actual current values:
The PS Vita is listed at $89 ($110 cheaper than its current ARV) and the PS4 is priced at $349 ($50 cheaper). The PlayStation TV is also listed at $99, which suggests it will not be receiving a price cut.
Could Sony be preparing to officially cut the price of both the PS Vita and PS3 during its E3 press conference? We'll find out on June 15th.
Thanks WholesomeGamer.

i already own a Vita TV, but a 89 vita is very tempting... especially considering that i got Gravity Rush (at 89 cents) and i cant play it on the Vita TV, and i want to finally see the remote play of the PS4
89 cents for Gravity Rush. I spent 40$ for it. (;_;)
got it free from psn+ (also went on to buy a retail copy of it so I'd have it on cart too and not need to worry about the space on mem card)
Woah dont like handhlds at all but a vita for 90 bucks is a day one for me
Would be quite something to see the Vita $90. That would give it a much needed boost.
I'd buy a new Vita to replace the one I got atm.
I would do the same :D
I actually think that is a good deal and would probably buy one myself at that price. That being said, I don't think it's going to boost sales much. Probably the first months or 2 cuz of the price drop, but it will just go back down. Price drop isn't what the Vita needs, it's Sony's support. I got a PSTV because of the big price drop it got in the UK and to be quite honest I'm ready to sell it. Sadly it's really lacking in games. Can't even play certain racing games because they use touch screen controls though it could easily be patched to make it work on the console.
90$ Vita? Damn, should've waited.
If the Vita really goes to $90 I will buy one just for the indies.
I'll be buying the vita at that price
I'm speculating there'll be a new Vita model. Walmarts across Canada had gotten rid of all of there Borderland Vita bundles selling them at $99 just last week! Unfortunately I was too late when I heard the news and I even checked 4 different locations and there are no Vitas in stock at any of the Walmarts. Coincidently this occurs just weeks before E3. I hope i'm right about a new Vita model =P
A PS VIta for 90$ is Steal.
At that price their probably loseing a tiny bit on each sale.
I dont get why all people saying this BIG Vita Pricecut wouldnt help sales, i dont like handhelds too, mostly because of rare games but fpr that price!? Hmmm.....^^
I would buy a Vita if it got lowered by that much..
why would they want to sell the vita at a loss? Don't tell me they can make money at $89 especially when they aren't able to lower costs by making loads of them like the PS4. The new 3ds is $200.
Does the PS4 really need a price cut though? Seems like it could be a little short sighted business wise.
It's a tax dodge. Saying they are worth less when they give them away.
I don't see that the Vita get cheaper than the PS TV. (unless they drop PS TV's price) It makes no sense, the Vita has a screen, controller and battery while PS TV needs a all those extras to work.
That price for the Vita is basically a going out of business sale. I'm guessing that Sony would be losing a fair bit on that transaction, and it's not a price they could commit to over a long period of time.
Back in 2012, a PS Vita 3G cost around 159$ (estimated) to build.
Im sure by now, prices are alot lower than that.
Even so, at just 90$, its fair to assume their loseing a small amount on each sale. If its made up with sales of games, its well worth it I think, and its probably something they "can" commit to for a long period of time.
@kumagwa With a pay as you go phones, you will need to buy a service. It's not just that you can buy service like you can buy games for the Vita, it's a necessity. The phone is useless without it.
@JRPGfan- Even with the cheaper screens, I don't think the Vita has gone down in price to that level. Also keep in mind, that the price of the build does not include things like packaging, shipping, retailer profit/kickbacks, cost to repair damaged units, etc.
If Sony actually could sell the Vita at 89 dollars, and they have been letting it tank at 200 dollars for the past two years, then they're stupid. It seems more likely that they're just trying to cut their losses on inventory.
I don't see the Vita at 89, it seems fake .
Same for the ps4, i don't think they will lower the price by 50$, but more, even if they need to keep the price to 400$ a little longer.
Predictions : Psvita at 150$ and Ps4 at 300$ for november/december, before the black firday.
almost there! I'll buy a PS4 at 299! hehe I got X1, Wii U, and a New PC in the mean time. Just wanna get the set but its gotta be cheap.
