February NPD - Better than January, but still Disappointing - News

The NPD group has released their sales figures for February in the US, and although it's an improvement over January (particularly good when you consider January included 5 weeks compared to February's 4), it's still somewhat disappointing. In particular, games sales were down 25% compared to this time last year. Still, the 360 was on top, selling 302,000 units in February and making it the best selling console in the US for the 26th consecutive month. Which is crazy.

There's finally some good news for the next generation, as the Wii U sees a 40% weekly growth compared to January, and the Vita 30% growth. The Wii U's growth is particularly impressive when you consider no retail games were released for the system at all in February, but sales were still only around 64,000 for the Wii U and 36,000 for the PSV, which is... well, it's not great.

Also noteworthy is the 3DS has crossed the 8 million barrier in the US, helped along by impressive sales of Fire Emblem: Awakening, which sold 180,000 units (117,000 retail and 63,000 digital) in the month, particularly impressive when you consider the previous game in the series, Shadow Dragon, has only sold 250,000 units in the past 5 years. However, this was not enough for it to break into the top 10 for the month, which reads as follows:
