China Considering Move to Unban Foreign Consoles - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 11 July 2013 / 2,871 ViewsThe nation of China is considering a move to overturn the 13-year ban on foreign gaming consoles and software, pending certain conditions being met.
It is being reported that China may lift this ban, if companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo will manufacture their products in Shanghai's upcoming free-trade zone. This move is being considered as a way to expand the Chinese economy and currency.
The foreign console ban originally came into effect in June of 2000. The Chinese Ministry of Culture felt concerned about the amount of violent and "unhealthy" material found in foreign games. If this ban is lifted, it would open up a large market consisting of hundreds of millions of people.
