Evolve's Community Manager Fired Over Racism Controversy - News

Turtle Rock, developers of the upcoming co-op horror game Evolve, have fired the game's community manager, Josh Olin, after a controversy surrounding some Tweets he posted.

If you're outside of the US then there's a decent chance you didn't hear about Donald Sterling, owner of the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers franchise. Long story short - he was taped in an apparent private location talking to his reported girlfriend, saying that she shouldn't bring "black people" to NBA games.

Olin later tweeted in defence of Donald because he was at his home when he was recorded. 

This was followed shortly thereafter by Turtle Rock revealing that Olin no longer works for them. In two separate tweets, the developer said:

"The comments made by our former community manager stand in stark contrast to our values as a game development studio. We sincerely apologize for his remarks and in no way endorse or support those views."

Olin later spoke to Kotaku, stating that he wasn't being racist, but felt that he was voicing support for his "three core tenets":

"They were promoting three core tenets I believe in," he added. "1) The harm sensational media presents to society. 2) The importance and sanctity of your privacy within your own home. And 3) The right to be whatever you want to be as an American, as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. That last point not to be confused with condoning Sterling's actions, which I don't.

It's disappointing to see that a select few in Turtle Rock and 2K Games management bought into this hysteria without even having a conversation with me - or even thoroughly reviewing the context of the tweets themselves. That said, everyone should totally still buy Evolve. The guys and gals making that game know their ***, and are making it good."
