Overall, hardware sale this week decreased by two percent. Week-on-week sales is up for the Xbox One. Overall year-on-year sales are up by six percent. The Wii U is up year-on-year.
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week: The Sims 4 (PSC) debuted at number one with sales of 408,150. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Call of Duty: Ghosts (XOne) passed the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Xbox One. PlayStation 4 sales are down by 19,954 (-13%) to 133,462 units sold. Xbox One sales are up by 44,384 (55%) to 124,736 units sold. The PS3 sold 46,223 units, a decrease of 5,321 (-10%). Wii U sales are down by 5,373 (-12%) to 40,562 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down by 412 (-2%) to 25,725 units sold. The Wii sold 6,651 units, a decrease of 681 (-9%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is down across the board. The 3DS sold 87,481 units, which is a decrease of 11,655 (-12%). The PlayStation Vita sold 25,471 units, which is down 9,307 (-27%) compared to last week. Week on week sales is down by 8,319 (-2%) to 490,311.
The Wii U is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 56,222 (-55%), the Wii is down 12,547 (-65%), the Xbox 360 is down 31,305 (-55%), and the Wii U is up 18,132 (81%). The Vita is down 15,091 (-37%) and the 3DS is down 91,297 (-51%). Year on year sales is up by 29,128 units (6%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox One four straight weeks. Sales have decreased for one week for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and three weeks for the Wii U and Wii.
The PlayStation 3 has a 59 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 33 percent market share; and the Wii has an eight percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 45 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 42 percent market share and the Wii U has a 13 percent market share. Compared with 10 weeks ago the Xbox One is up.
Handheld hardware sales have decreased for the Vita for one week and the 3DS for three weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 62,000 units, from 64,000 units last week.
The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS and Vita are down.
Worldwide Software
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week: The Sims 4 (PSC) debuted at number one with sales of 408,150. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online (3DS) debuted at number seven with sales of 54,477. The game launched in Japan.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (PSV) debuted at number 16 with sales of 29,778. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Madden NFL 15 (PS4) is at number two with sales of 113,292. Madden NFL 15 (XOne) is at number three with sales of 87,684. Madden NFL 15 (X360) is at number four with sales of 77,881. Yokai Watch 2 Ganso/Honke (3DS) is at number five with sales of 62,287.
Madden NFL 15 (PS3) is at number six with sales of 57,965. . Minecraft (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 51,266. The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) is at number nine with sales of 48,883. Minecraft (X360) is at number 10 with sales of 43,329.
Software home console sales week-on-week is down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold 772,651 games this week, a decrease of 437,681 units (-36%). The Xbox 360 sold 571,823 games, a decrease of 349,826 units (-38%). The PlayStation 4 sold 410,647 games, a decrease of 465,731 units (-53%). Xbox One software sales are down 251,792 units (-49%) to 260,757 games sold. The Wii sold 190,130 games, a decrease of 37,742 (-17%). The Wii U sold 119,455 games, a decrease of 23,030 (-16%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is down across the board. The 3DS sold 389,175 games, which is down 63,538 units (-13%). The Vita sold 163,475 games, a decrease of 152,873 units (-48%) week-on-week. DS game sales are down 28,178 units (-17%) to 142,596 games sold. The PSP sold 56,042 games, a decrease of 10,215 (-15%). Total combined software is down 1.82 million units (-37%) week-on-week to 3.08 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the Wii U and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is down 600,944 units (-350%), the Wii is down 250,795 units (-48%), the Xbox 360 is down 1.13 million units (-58%), and the Wii U is down 27,081 units (-18%). The DS is down 81,374 units (-36%), the PSP is down 124,618 units (-69%), the 3DS is up 44,342 units (13%), and the Vita is up 34,273 units (27%). Total combined software is down 1.22 million units (-28%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have decreased for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii for one week. Sales have decreased for the Wii U for three weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 50 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 38 percent market share; and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 52 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 33 percent market share, and the Wii U has a 15 percent market share.
Handheld software sales have decreased for the 3DS, Vita and PSP for one week, and four weeks for the DS. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than two times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold nearly three times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 72 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 28 percent market share. The 3DS has a 70 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 30 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.

When you see Madden and Sims so far above everything else on their launches.... really makes you wonder people who question "Why do EA just pump out the same game each year with slightly more/less features" Because people clearly lap them up. Think also that Sims 4 is only available on the PC, that it holds a 70% metacritic score and also how many copies of it would be sold digitally compared to retail copies which is all that has been tracked here to put it firmly at No.1
Where's the analysis for the week ending 30th of August?
Why did XB1 increase by 240% in Europe, with no major release? It would be nice if you included a section which actually analysed the data, why is XB1 suddenly doing so well?
I agree with you, eitherway the europe increase it because of the tier 2 territories launch the week ending sept 6, that is Belgium, Greece, etc...
