League of Legends Security Breach - News

Riot Games Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck have released a statement that the free-to-play online game League of Legends has been hacked. A "portion" of users from North America has had their account information stolen. The hackers were able to gain access to "usernames, email addresses, salted password hashes, and some first and last names."

Hashed and salted credit card numbers from 120,000 transaction from 2011 were also accessed. Riot Games is e-mailing the affected players and will do what in can to safeguard their information. Players in North America will be asked to change their passwords.

Riot Games is also adding in additional security features. "all new registrations and account changes will need to be associated with a valid email address" and "changes to account email or password will require verification via email or mobile SMS."
