Kinect, new X360 Model Officially Priced by Microsoft - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 20 July 2010 / 4,470 Views

While people have been throwing guesses around for a while now, Microsoft has shut the door on rumors (despite their accuracy) and officially given us a pricing scheme for this fall's release of the Kinect motion-sensor for Xbox 360.

The Kinect sensor alone, which is bundled with Kinect Adventures, will retail for $149.99 / £129.99 / 150 Euros. Microsoft will begin selling Kinect in the USA on November 4.

But for those who don't even have the Xbox 360 system yet, they'll be releasing an all-in-one bundle which includes the 4GB Xbox 360 system, the Kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures for $299 / £249.99.

Alongside these two options, the remaining launch games will retail for $49 / £39.99 / 50 Euros. These include Kinectimals, Kinect Sports and Kinect Joy Ride, among others.

The X360 Arcade replacement will sell for $200 / 130 Pounds / 150 Euros. It launches on August 3 in the USA and August 20 in the United Kingdom.

As a quick review, with currency converted, pricing for Kinect is as follows. One Pound = $1.53, One Euro = $1.29.

                                           Britain           Mainland Europe       United States

Kinect Games                 $61.20                 $64.50                         $50

Kinect + Kin Adv             $198.90               $193.50                      $150

Kinect + X360  + Adv      $382.50              N/A                              $300

X360 Model w/ 4GB      $229.50              $258.00                      $200

Where do you stand on this pricing? That's just about as much as an entire Wii system and only gets that single bundled game.

@nintendogamer because they've never had a "pirahana like plant" in a video game ever. you can jump in the rear screen that is groundbreaking!!! give me a break that is not the first game to do that, Fatal Fury did that years ago. Mario Galaxy 2 aint groundbreaking either. they just add Yoshi and more levels (nothing wrong with that its a good game) THe only thing i've seen that comes close to anything "groundbreaking" is that Lost in Shadows game, which no one (but me) will buy because they'll be to busy playing some new shovelware

Nintendogamer (on 22 July 2010)

@oniyide, DKreturns? how is it the same game, while watching the trailer, I saw things which weren't in the SNES DK, like those pirhana plants weren't in the SNES one, and you couldn't jump at the rear screen in the SNES DK. What about the 2 in Mario galaxy 2. It means there was one mario galaxy 2 before it.

@nintendogamer while I dont agree exactyl with tradikous you have gotta to be on meth not one game you mentioned was groundbreaking, DKreturns??? its the same game as the SNES ones with better graphics. "Monster Hunter Tri" PSP did that years ago, Mario Galaxy 2??? notice the 2 in the title. N Twilight Princess was a damn GC port. TRY HARDER

Also, which prices include VAT (I assume Europe and GB), and which dont (that would be US).

This is a bi inaccurate

What is that stuff in Euros for Europe.

FX rates fluctuate on a daily basis, I want to know in my own currency.

not bad

$150 on its own = fail. $300 with 360 console = win.

My advice: If you already own a 360 then don't buy Kinect. If you don't own a 360 then buy the kinect bundle.

Nintendogamer (on 21 July 2010)

@trid

try donkey kong country returns, kirby's epic yarn, Mosnyer hunetr tri, mario galaxy 2, the only groundbreaking games in wii's launch year was Twilight princess.

Tridrakious (on 21 July 2010)

@baz

What "groundbreaking" games are on the Wii that isn't within it's launch year?

Both the PS3 and 360 have more individually than the Wii.

wow Europeans are getting screwed. On the other hand, with that game line up, everyone's getting screwed. lol

Serious_frusting (on 21 July 2010)

for a new 360 owner it is ok. But for someone who already own a 360. This is bad news indeed.

The only thing is i cant see sony doing a Move PS3 bundle for that cheap so M$ has one over on them with pricing again

  • 0
z101 (on 21 July 2010)

to little, to late and far to expensive.

  • 0
heruamon (on 21 July 2010)

BTW...I think M$ is setting the price at $149, but you'll see incredible deals bringing the price of it down below $100, when you strip out the giftcards and additional free games, not to include the bundled one.

  • 0
heruamon (on 21 July 2010)

The stand alone is $20 too high for my taste, but it does come with a game, which some outlets weren't including. That Walmart Bundles is look mighty sweet right now, if oyu're getting Kinect...methinks the launch of Kinect is going to have many Xbox Haters REALLY REALLY pissed off...

  • 0
Icyedge (on 21 July 2010)

This is really overprice in relation to what you can get hardware wise for that amount of money. Its obvious the development wasnt easy. Tough, they still should do something about the european pricing.

lolz 4gb xbox 360 boy they really did everything they could to reduce the price...this thing is going to be an epic fail.

here it is again the arcade 4gb in uk is 150 pound not 130 like its listed in this article http://www.mcvuk.com/news/40086/4GB-Xbox-360-S-confirmed

thismeintiel (on 20 July 2010)

Well, at least they were smart enough to throw in a game with Kinect. Still can't see many people buying a $150 dollar camera. Not crazy about the prices for the game, either. I mean these aren't in-depth core games or anything. I think Kinect will sell ok at launch, but once word of mouth spreads (especially if they don't fix the tracking of black clothing/people and the sitting problems) its sales will plummet. I wonder with the recent upswing in HW sales for the 360, if Sony will answer it will a small price-cut of both the PS3 and the Move.

  • 0
oniyide (on 20 July 2010)

Move is still cheaper than Kinect if you dont care about the bundle, YOu can find the PSEye for around 25 bucks(thats how much mine cost brand new) the controller 50. for two players thats $125 dollars, plus the games are cheaper and they appear to be better. MS needs some good games for that ASAP because the whole "minority report" thing will wear off.

  • 0
bloodcrust (on 20 July 2010)

Kinect is priced right Move will cost that much but more for more people and it's priced like the Rock Band set and Guitar Hero but with those you can only play that type of game so as long as we see some better games come out for connect it's gonna be worth it people cant seem to wait even tho it take about 3 years to make those great games. As for the Kincet games....hell NO! they know those should be $15 dollars $30 MAX $60 my ass MS! those games are more like arcade games not a full game with great stories, tons of missions, amazing graphics and such.

@Tri

That's nice for you. I'll continue to enjoy groundbreaking games on the Wii while you complain. Have a nice day.

oniyide (on 20 July 2010)

Im not shocked at the price of the Kinect, but the bundle, what the hell can you do with a 4gig flash drive??? most HD games require a gig install or more. I mean, really MS??? I feel sorry for anyone dumb enough to buy that. My PSP's memory stick is bigger. ANd MS has the audacity to say its cheaper, of course its cheaper, your selling people a piece of crap. At least with the Move bundle your getting a real PS3. thats like a Kia salesman saying his car is cheaper than a Lexus

Tridrakious (on 20 July 2010)

The Wii can't do most of what the PS3 and 360 can do. I'm so sick of the Wii, it's a joke and everyone knows it.

Sony and Microsoft focused on bringing new things to the industry first, before working on gimmicks.
Kinect I see as a joke as well. Only 4 listed launch titles for it? And Microsoft was saying they think Sony is "FUDDING" the Move? I've seen almost all of the 40 titles that Move will have in the first 3 and a half months it's on the market.

Anyway, back to my original point. The Wii needs to die.

I think the Slim Arcade + Kinect at $299 is a good deal. The Slim Arcade is only missing a HDD but has ample 4Gig internal memory. Having the WiFi in the Arcade is a good idea because it 1) encourages Arcade buyers to get on to XBL, and 2) there will no doubt be plenty of online coop/multiplayer options in Kinect games so easy internet connection helps to get you in.

$149 (and more for non-US countries) seems like a bit of a barrier to entry for existing 360 owners. And unless there is a sweet bundle for 250Gig skus a $450 price tag seems a bit steep. Coming bundled with a game helps to take the sting out of the price making it feel like you're only paying $100 for the hardware.

MS are aiming for profit rather than market penetration with this price. Either that or the Kinect is a lot more expensive to manufacture than people thought (Pachter thought it might retail for <$100 I believe) and $149 is the barest minimum MS could afford to release it at. Who knows really.

In NZ I expect Kinect to retail for $250 (Move bundle: PSEye, 1xMove & multi-game demo disc is $109). The Kinect+360+game bundle should retail for about $470 (same price as current 360s). Given people are tending to compare to Wii, Wii retails for around $370 (or with a game $390). Even though Move entry bundle only permits one player gaming I think the much lower entry price will work in its favour. But I think Move will need to do a NZ$200 bundle which comes with 2 Moves, PSEye and a full game, which is more comparable in terms of functionality with Kinect, but $50 cheaper.

wow.......not sure with the pricing, though glad I don't live in europe....(no offense)

  • 0
Almightyderek (on 20 July 2010)

@kowenicki

You actually can play music and store photos on the Wii and of course stream SD movies. Its media features aren't as good as the 360 or especially the PS3 but it does have them. Also although many of us nerds use those features the majority of people out there won't and probably don't even know they can.

  • 0
AnthonyW86 (on 20 July 2010)

So basically the only difference between the normal and the arcade model is the storage? I don't know if you can still buy a seperate hard-drive for the new arcade but $100(50% higher price) is alot of money just to be able to have more Xbox Live content/games installed at the same time.

  • 0
WIzarDE (on 20 July 2010)

why does it cost more in britain and in europe ?

  • 0
A_C_E (on 20 July 2010)

@ Kowenicki
You can't do all those things on the Kinect either but you can do them on the 360 but for 50 dollars more you could have both 360 and Wii or you could just go for one system with 360 & Kinect, I think that was his point.

  • 0
Stefan1904 (on 20 July 2010)

You have messed up the pricing. The new Xbox 360 4 GB costs 149,99 Pounds / 199,99 Euro. And with your price conversion you forgot that US prices don't include taxes.

The bundle costs 299,99 Euro in Europe.

  • 0
specialops787 (on 20 July 2010)

Yes the new arcade still has wireless N

The sitting down part is going to turn off a lot of people. It doesnt make sense playing a driving game while standing. Unless they release a small update.

So it seems the majority of the rumors about price were true.

  • 0
AnthonyW86 (on 20 July 2010)

Microsoft trying to make a quick buck it seems. Atleast you get a game with it now i guess....
Does the Arcade have Wifi aswell btw?

  • 0
Silver-Tiger (on 20 July 2010)

Look at that ridiculous price exchange rate. We pay 14 dollars more for a game.

Also, why don't they have the bundle for Europe, where the biggest casual market is?

  • 0

I thought it will be much less expensive.
