Capcom: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Beat Initial Expectations - News

by Gabriel Franco , posted on 28 April 2010 / 3,510 Views

During the interview he talked about the current status of Marvel vs Capcom 3, which seems will be playable at E3, and also spoke about the sales of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars:

[Tatsunoko Vs Capcom] certainly beat the initial expectations. It didn't set any land speed records, but it was a success. And that's really saying something considering that we're talking about a game that was not only never coming out, but has a title that most people can't even pronounce.

Good News for Wii owners, probably they can get high quality games from Capcom soon.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars is a crossover fighting game developed by Eighting and published by Capcom for the Wii gaming console. It was released in North America on January 26, 2010, in Japan on January 28 and in Europe on January 29. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom feature characters from the Japanese animation studio Tatsunoko Production and video game company Capcom

meh, I never liked BOSS like fighters in my fighting games. I found this game hard to get into. It was a fine game though. Well animated. If it removed some characters like GOOOOOOOOOOOLD LIGHTEEEEEEEEEN and such it could have been much better.

I love Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but, stop playing it because of Monster Hunter 3.

yep, i predict it will keep selling until ... wii2!
surely not at a high rate, but I wouldn't be surprised if it sells more units in December 2010 than in the launch month.
Some Wii owners don't even know that this game exists, because these people are not visiting vgchartz or other gaming sites.

what does this great legs mean anyway? does it mean it will keep selling, because I love this game but lets not kid ourselves. anyone who wanted the game most likely bought it by now, I mean it came out in Jan.

Good news for Capcom but why all the hate for other companies? Sega have been a great supporter of the Wii, delivering a wide range and some of the best titles for not only the Wii but also gaming in general (HotD:overkill anyone?). Also don't forget Ubisoft who continues to put their faith in the wii even when the number of sales of different titles varies greatly. (eg massive success with Red Steel, Just Dance, Raving Rabbids, not so massive (so far) with Red Steel 2, Rabbids Go Home)

Wii game production costs are at a lower price, so a quarter mil sold should be enough to be in profit. Considering the typical Wii dispense with advertise and voila.
And we all know that Wii games have legs like my girlfriend.
By keeping in mind that the predecessor was nearly identical (just sold in japan), you can add that sales because the production costs for the 2nd one are negligible.

nearly a quarter mil sold is not that bad at all, but is it me or do people just have really low expectations for 3rd party Wii sales??? If this was on an HD system it would be considered a flop. someone said that Capcom is good for supporting the Wii, interesting, Capcom has ALWAYS supported Ninty in some capacity. they might not throw AAA titles their way but they are consistent. good example, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (my fav 2d fighter) on Gamecube, that game had no buisness on that system with that controller, but I respect them just for trying

170K thus far in America alone sounds pretty good for a rather obscure title.

I thoroughly enjoy the game I even played it last night after I got frustrated with the lag on Super street fighter 4.

meh... i'm glad capcom games sell, they are great. But... they could put more of their AAA production onto Wii...
I'm not talking as a wii fanboy there (as I have access to content through the 360 and PC) but by a market share point of view.

i didn't even know what tatsunoko was.. i just brought the game mainly for the capcom fighters then i used some tatsunoko characters and now im glad i brought it lol...

oh and capcom will be even more happy when they find the chartz of MHTri, i mean that succeeded Waaaaaay over there expectation, is it me or capcoms games are the only ones that sells Ok, i don't know if its because they are capcom and everyone knows there games are awesome or the fact that they had nice marketing plan

@BMaker11 low expectations because the license is very obscure in the west.

Capcom and most japanese companies have very conservative financial outlooks. A game that sells enough to break even is considered a success, plus i think in the long term it builds brand loyalty. Sega should take heed of this strategy (and perhaps with the latest changes they are)...

@BMaker11

While other companies games, specifically EA, have sold 2-4 million, whenever they don't they immediately turn around and start whining that the Wii is killing their company and 'nothing but Nintendo games can sell on the Wii'. Despite the fact that some of their own games have sold well over a million on the system.

Capcom is the only company, aside from say Atlus, that has not only balanced 'quality' titles with 'projected earnings'. And isn't whining about how well their games are doing.

I heart Capcom, they've been supporting the Wii hardcore audience with RE4, Zack and Wiki, Okami, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Spyborgs, Monster Hunter 3, Mega man 9 and 10, Both Resident Evil Chronicles... I really hope they're making big profits, they really deserve it...

3rd parties missed Wii in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 of the Wii lifespan!

Capcom is the only dev who made quality Wii titles like Zack & Wiki, RE Railshooters, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Monster Hunter Tri. SEGA missed, EA missed and every other 3rd party missed as well.

I'm confident this game will be even better than Marvel vs Capcom 3.
So this is great news!

But... like I said in the forums... sounds a little bit like damage control by capcom. Hope not.

@Kenryoku_Maxis

But a lot of lower than average games HAVE sold 4 million.

OT:

I'm glad it beat their expectations and they're happy with the sales of the game.....but why set your expectations so low? Is it because this game truly was a case of "it's cheap to develop on the Wii", or because of recent trends of high profile, 3rd party games?

Kenryoku_Maxis (on 28 April 2010)

Thank you Capcom for being one of the only companies that tries to make better than avg Wii games and doesn't expect every game to sell 4 million.
