Install Size for Bioshock 2 on PS3 Revealed - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 03 February 2010 / 10,685 Views

Well, as most of PS3 users waited 10-20 minutes during the installation of Bioshock, 2K knew they had to make it shorter with Bioshock 2! In fact, the first one needed 5012 megabytes, which is a lot. Well... everything is relative since the second opus is asking you only 5011 megabytes, so you can enjoy one more megabyte this time!

So, for the ones who planned to buy the game on PS3, it's time to clean-up your hard drive, especially if you have a 20GB PS3 (shame on you if you hadn't replaced that 20GB HDD yet!)

Alright...i can see that 360 addicts can't miss a chance to low the PS3...-_-

Well, this new is not a war console,

First, to stop this war...
Uncharted 2 (no installation) have 25Gb remplished on the blu-ray...and it would take 4 dvd to have the complete game...so shut up...blu-ray is the revolution!

Bioshock 1 took me 12-15 minutes to install...but its also the longest...most of games takes 1 or 2 minutes...so ur arguments are bullshit.

360 is weaker, but has been built 2 years before, and wasn't made for a long lifetime, as the ps3.

Stop the war console plz!

@Hephaestos

why do you want 3D pictures on DVDs? Sorry but I don't share your taste of horribly compressed video with murky bitrate as in the norm for 360 games. I like my HDTV and it's for true HD, so be it if developers make games for the inferior format and then take shortcuts to port it over. At least I hope I won't see those pixelated cinematics I saw in the 360's Dante's Inferno on the PS3 version...

nice 20 mins wait... BR really is the future.... (and i'm gonna hate it when 3D movies are on BR format only...)

Its only 5 gbs its not that much stop b!tching and yes the PS3 version has smoother graphics and shortened load times.

Dude, 5GB is a LOT of memory especially if you only have a 60GB PS3 like myself (or a 40GB & 20GB for some people). I've already loaded 2 PS3 games that took up 4GB a piece. I doubt the load times and graphics will be any different then the 360 version. Only difference is the 360 version won't have to load 5 GB onto their HDD and waste 15-20mins of your time. It'll probably be less then a GB for the 360 version. Why should I waste space if I don't have to? Almost all my multiplats are on the 360 anyways. I buy PS3 exclusives and use it to play a my DVD's and a few Blu-Ray movies. PS3's upscaling is better then 360's. I'll give Sony some credit for that.

@ Steroid
If you install it on the 360, it won't be loud because the drive will not spin

Silver-Tiger (on 04 February 2010)

5 Gigs? Then I still got 300 GB on my 500 GB HDD. Bring on bigger installs so my loading times are even shorter! I cound'nt care less.

Me (on 04 February 2010)

gotta wonder how naughty dog piss all over other devs when it comes to install sizes as theirs is virtually none existant and the games are ten times better than most.

limelight022 (on 03 February 2010)

The reason why its so high is a programming issue. Instead of reconstructing the game to stream/play data off the 2x speed blu-ray disc, they did a shortcut so to speak to have 5gb on the hdd to access data while the disc drive can do another task as well.

Lurker (on 03 February 2010)

I got 120gb. No worries here.

If you have no space left on your PS3, then just go to Games Data section and remove data for your old games.

I have got 52 Gb left on my hard drive, so whatever.

That's pretty big but I've got a huge HDD and it'll be worth it not to hear my loud ass 360 spinning that disk.

@ GameAnalyser

Only reason people are making a big deal is because of all the PS3 fans that blaze the 360 for having multi-disk games. I think it's all about reaping what you sow.

I didn't play part 1 so I won't get this one either, but I would much rather have a long initial install instead of slow load times. It's very easy to upgrade a PS3's HDD. I have a 320GB which is pretty standard with most people who do an upgrade. If that isn't enough, there are 500GB, 750GB and probably even 1TB by now. I don't understand why this is such a big deal. I wish Uncharted 2 had an install file so I wouldn't have to wait so long on the game's initial boot.

I wouldn't be surprised if PS4 is a PC at the rate things are going.

I'm getting the XBox 360 version. I won't have to delete a thing. I got the 120GB HDD for my 360. I've got LOTS of room.

FonzGemini (on 03 February 2010)

In case you all didnt know, you can delete game data for games you dont play or hardly ever play anymore. You can always install them again and it doesnt affect your saved game data.

O-WoW, I think Im just gonna get the 360 version instead

  • 0
thismeintiel (on 03 February 2010)

This makes me wonder, does the PS3 version have higher res textures than the 360 version? I mean 5 GB was pretty big back when Bioshock 1 was released, but I understood it why it was probably needed since they added higher res textures on just aobut everything. Maybe the game is just larger.

Icyedge (on 03 February 2010)

They did played a couple of multiplatform or ps3 exclusives lately?? There no more install anymore on most games, they could have worked harder. Still its better than filling the blue-ray disc with duplicate data instead of learning how to program on it.

gekkokamen (on 03 February 2010)

@OP you must be stuck in M$ mentality or something. Every PS3 owner I know has either 80GB or larger drive. I have 250GB, only $50. My brother has 320GB and so does one of my friends.

Cougarman (on 03 February 2010)

i didn't know if i should get bioshok 2 for PC or PS3 before, now its PC all the way, my 40GB is almost full i have to avoid games that need installs for a while.

who cares! im going to spend hours of wasted time on this which would have been better spent on something constructive, whats 10 minutes?!

  • 0
brainiacxiii (on 03 February 2010)

poor design, the first game was terrible and the second will be even worse, a year of progress gives them 1 less mb? fail

Staude (on 03 February 2010)

20-30 mins ? I don't remember it taking that long.

Reasonable (on 03 February 2010)

First game had an install. Second game is surely built on tweaked engine from the first. Surprise = not. Although, given other Unreal Engine's don't need install I wish I knew why this one does.

  • 0
Boberman (on 03 February 2010)

if you had the option of an install or Bayonetta like performance... I think you would take the install, and since reviews are based upon putting the disk in and playing the game it would hurt its score not to have a forced install. So I have 0 issue with this.

I expected nothing less to be honest since the Blu-ray drive is slower at reading so needs to be done. Glad i popped a nice 250GB HDD in my launch model :-D

20 minutes? It only took me 10 minutes to install the game. Got to love bias.
