That ~70% market share is going to grow, at current rate.
I think by the end of the gen, its going to be around ~75-78%.
You guys think PS5 can hit 130m?

Can PS5 hit 130m? Of course. PS4 could've hit that if not for COVID-19 and a little less interest in PS5 for its first few years.
I still think PS5 will finish around 115m, maybe 120-125m. I think it only hits around 130m or more if we have a repeat of PS2/PS3 where the older console sells well while the new one struggles.
PS5 could very well sell more in the calendar year of 2026 than 2025 due to GTA VI, hopefully a more stable US and global economy than right now and maybe some more bundles. I don't think typical price cuts are on the table, especially not before PS6 launches.

It will be interesting to see what the final total and difference is at the end of this gen. The difference between PS4 and X1 at the end was 59.24M so maybe this time around the gap could be closer to 70M between the two at the end of this gen.

Its going over a 70m gap..... like that's just expecting PS5 to sell 110m. I think PS5 might do like 130m.

Considering there isn't any real form of competition anymore. The gamers lose.

Nintendo.

I’m sick of you casuals pretending they are not in the race

That's cute. Thinking I'm a casual. It's constantly spouted off that Sony and Nintendo aren't competing for the same marketshare of consumers. That Microsoft and Sony are the direct competitors, but the moment someone doesn't mention the all mighty Nintendo, when they aren't part of the topic, it ruffles feathers. Nintendo platforms (all the way back to the Wii) have been considered "complementary platforms" alongside a PlayStation, Xbox and/or PC.

If you don't think Nintendo is in competition with PlayStation, then yes; you are some sort of Fortnite / FC25 gaming casual.

Why do you think games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Yakuza are coming to Switch 2?

It's because many people that buy Nintendo consoles enjoy the same types of games as many people who buy Sony consoles.

The people that try to box Nintendo off as not competition are gaming casuals who don't think Zelda / Mario are "Real games".

Given how weak the Switch 1/2 is/will be, I pity anyone who buys them for third party games. I mean that, too. It's not a snarky slight. If someone likes third party games, and all they have is a Switch, they're going to spend an entire generation getting watered down ports that people who own a second console never have to deal with. And some of the games, like GTA for instance, they're never even going to get.

I agree. If you've bought Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 mostly for multiplat third-party games with only the occasional Nintendo title I can't understand it.
Just get a PC or PlayStation, or a secondhand Xbox now that they're going up in price.

Yeah. It's crazy to think that you have to go all the way back to the SNES to find a home console from Nintendo that could handle third party games well. And even then, there were a lot of games where the Genesis was superior due to wonky aspect ratios and less-than processor speeds. Which means the NES was the only Nintendo console that had definitive third party games.

Many people only have money / Time for one system.

I’m a PlayStation guy, who wants that level of performance; but for a lot of people the combination of 1080p gaming in a handheld form is all they require.

Third party games go beyond big releases you know, Indies and a shit ton of classic arcade and classic console ports that are perfect for the Switch form factor. With the flip grip I play shmups in tate mode.

Well, Nintendo does their own thing and even Reggie stated that they don't see Sony and Microsoft as competition.

Even the current President of Nintendo said that they will continue to just focus on their first party output and doing their own thing.
