Best PlatinumGames game ever!!! Well deserved!!!
Well deserved!
To me this is the greatest game ever! The story alone made this game worth it. And yes, whoever has only gotten ending A you need to keep going. You're missing the best part of the storyline!
Do we know the breakdown of sales among consoles? It came out to Switch not that long ago correct?
Great to see the success of this game. I didn't enjoy it as much as others did but it was quite unique.
I'll copy a bit of my reply above for you as well. If you mean "Ending A", that's not a playthrough. You're just a bit more than halfway through the story. I know it looked like it was an ending, and that's intentional. Usually I don't want to say that, because people find out for themselves when they keep playing. But if someone decides to stop, they should know where they actually stopped. Which is about 60% through the main story. And I'm not even counting the replaying portion you have to do with 9S before you get to the rest of the story as the missing 40%.
In Metal Gear Solid terms, think of it as you stopping Metal Gear Solid 3 after The Fury. And to get to the rest of the game, you have to first replay a portion that you already played, as Eva.
I get that’s not the full story, I thought it was just bad game design that’s all. Didn’t motivate me to continue. Ending A is still finishing the game, even if it’s not getting the full story.
Playing one route in Fire Emblem Three Houses is finishing the game even though you have to play all 4 to experience the full story.
Ending A is really not finishing the game though, even in the way you are describing. You haven't even gotten to the title credits yet. (You'll get the "Developed by Platinum Games. Director: YOKO TARO. Square Enix Presents" title drop some 30+ hours into the game, when essentially the second half of the game begins.) Because Ending A is an intentional misdirect, and does not serve as a conclusion to anything in the slightest, except for Adam & Eve. You really don't know anything about 2B or 9S at that point. And what happened to A2? Pascal? YoRHa Commander? The machines? Haven't even stopped them yet, and that was the main mission, remember?
If I put an "Ending" credit after the 4th dungeon in a Zelda game, and you chose not to go on to do the rest of them and defeat Ganon or save Zelda and Hyrule, that wouldn't count as finishing the game. It would just be falling for a misdirect.
I said above that I wasn't even counting the second route with 9S. That is more of a means to an end to unlock what is essentially the second half of the game.
It's a misdirect, and unfortunately it managed to get some people. Which is an argument for why it's not good design. But it's in no way finishing the game. It's more like stopping halfway through.
It doesn't play exactly the same each time and goes quicker each time and you play as A2 in one PT. It keeps ramping up until the story blows wide open. Nier 1 you just played the second half multiple times. NA it changes and play as different people which changes the gameplay and reveals more story.
