by William D'Angelo , posted on 24 January 2024 / 8,678 Views

Developer Pocket Pair announced Palworld has sold over seven million units in five days since it released in Early Access.

This figure is up from six million units sold in four days, five million units sold in three days, four million units sold in about three days, two million units sold in in the first 24 hours and one million units sold in the first eight hours.

"Palworld has sold over 7 million copies in only 5 days!," said the developer. "Thank you very much!! We continue to be hard at work addressing the issues and bugs some users are experiencing. Thanks for your support!"

Palworld released in Early Access on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass on January 19.

Read details on the game below:

Palworld is an open-world survival crafting game that supports up to 32 players and is set in a world where mysterious creatures called “Pals” live.

Along your adventures, you will encounter many Pals. Capture them, make them work, fight, breed and even sell them. You can adventure in a large world alongside your Pals.

Over 100 Pals

In Palworld, mysterious creatures called “Pal” live in the wild. There are also many rare pals such as subspecies, bosses, legends, lucky pals, etc. Additionally, more Pals will continue to be added in future updates.

Capture and Train Pals

Every pal has a special skill for you to utilize. There are also Pals that can fly and Pals that can use guns!

Vast Open World and many Dungeons to Explore

There are various areas such as plains, deserts, snowy mountains, and volcanoes, and the pals living there are all different. There are also many dungeons with hidden treasures and special pals. Set out on a great adventure in search of unknown treasures and unknown pals.

Fight Against Leaders of Hostile Factions and Field Bosses

As you explore the vast open world, you may come across giant Pals. In addition, each biome has a hostile faction based there, whose leaders stand in your way and won’t back down without a fight.

Fight Alongside Pals using a Wide Variety of Weapons

From traditional weapons such as bows and swords to modern weapons such as assault rifles and rocket launchers. Some pals can use heavy weapons such as Gatling guns and missile launchers!

Build a Base

Leave production, farming, cooking, power generation, etc. to your pals. Pals work in ways that suit their personalities. However, pals are also living creatures like us. If you forget to give them food and rest, it will negatively affect their motivation.

Supports Multiplayer for up to 32 Players

Palworld can be played alone as well as multiplayer. By forming a guild and cooperating with your friends, you can adventure together towards a common goal. Player Battles will be implemented in a future update.

Game has taken over 2024

The people has been expecting for so long for Pokemon to give something better than the crap they've been releasing past years.
I wish this helps them to realize, besides the kids they're targeting, there's a lot of disappointed adult fans waiting for something different, or at least a finished game. They're missing a huge market.

This game is so much not like Pokemon that I highly doubt it impact the fanbase that way.

I hope it shows gamefreak what a game with 7 million budget can achieve if they put an effort into it which game freak have been slacking since they have more experience in game making then palworld guys.

At this rate, it'll be newsworthy once the game stops selling. Insane sales for the budget, marketing, and expectations.

NextGen_Gamer (on 24 January 2024)

It should be noted in these articles, and this comes confirmed from the developers and CEO, that all of these sales updates are EXCLUSIVELY the Steam version. The 7 million copies does NOT include any Xbox console sales, Windows Store sales on PC, or any Game Pass downloads.

I saw Geoff Keighley's tweet about that, but that probably means sales across other platforms outside of Steam have not reached a 1M milestone.

Probably so, but it is still crazy to think about. My guess is Xbox console sales along with Microsoft Store (not Windows Store, sorry lol) sales are pretty small, but Game Pass downloads could be huge however because that is deferred shared subscription revenue, it doesn't necessitate making an announcement. Saying you have 5 million Game Pass downloads doesn't amount to much if you are only getting a few cents or whatever per download (I have no idea what the shared agreement is between MS/companies, just purely speculating here). Saying you have 7 million Steam sales, however, is huge, hence why we are hearing about those.

Hope its a wake up call for nintendo but i doubt it, gamefreak will continue to release lazy ass games that look like N64 games.

Even if Nintendo wants to get a move on, Creatures and Game Freak can prevent much progress from being made.

whats amazing is that this game had a 10,000 dollar budget (but i think in the end it was double that) and had around 40 people on the dev team. But now is around 20. This game is gonna stir up the industry

10,000 wouldn’t even pay the salary of one person for a single year, so that seems unlikely…

Zippy6 DekutheEvilClown (on 24 January 2024)

Yes, the Pocket Pair CEO said the budget was "about 1 billion yen" meaning around $6.8 million. But still an absolutely tiny budget to to be selling like this.

I am curious to where the mass amounts of hate to Pokémon have come from all of a sudden

Aside from glitches and poor optimisation, scarlet and violet are one of the best games in the franchise, and Pokémon has had lots more good games over the years then bad ones

They've been steadily accumulating bad will the entire Switch era. Basically every new game has some new controversy, be it Dexit in 2019, BDSP's limited improvements in 2021, or SV's technical flaws in 2022. Reviews are not entirely reliable, but note how Pokemon entries scored over 80 all but one time on Metacritic the entire DS and 3DS eras, whereas they've only gotten 80 MAX since then.

Note that Pokemon is almost unique among Nintendo series in that it has NOT grown massively during the Switch era. Pokemon makes up 2 of the Top 10 best-sellers on Switch, compared to 4 out of 10 best-selling 3DS games. Sure, S/S and S/V have sold roughly 50% better than their 3DS predecessors, but compared to Animal Crossing and MK8 Deluxe selling 200% more than their 3DS counterparts, that's honestly underwhelming.

Salnax Kneetos (on 24 January 2024)

As for Scarlet/Violet being the best in the series, that's not the general consensus among critics or the general playerbase. It has the lowest pro reviews in series history, and an average user score of 3.4 on Metacritic. And yes, there was undoubtedly review bombing, but even other Pokemon entries have fared much better (7.5 for XY, 7.6 for ORAS, 7.6 for SM, etc).

Nintendo move over, there is a new king in town.

Pokemon S/S : 6M in 2 Days, 16 in 6 weeks.
Pokemon S/V : 10M in 2 Days, 20 in 6 weeks.
Zelda TotK : 10M in 2 Days, 20 in 7 weeks.
I think Nintendo don't care about this game, kid.

I wonder if you have the ability to read.

1/ It’s 8M in 6 days.
2/ It's on Steam so more than 300 millions active accounts.
3/ The game costs only 30$.
4/ There are only 130M Switch.
5/ It's just a fashion effect.
