[Update] Rumor: God of War Ragnarok Delayed to 2023 - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 08 June 2022 / 11,928 Views

Update:

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier on ResetEra says he talked with someone who would know firsthand and they said they haven't heard anything about a delay.

"It's hard to definitely prove a negative but Someone Who Would Know Firsthand just told me they haven't heard anything about a slip to 2023, as did Someone Else Who Might Know Secondhand," said Schreier.

Original post:

It was spotted earlier today that publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Santa Monica Studio moved the placeholder date for God of War Ragnarok from September 30 to December 31.

Various European sources have since told Gamereactor God of War Ragnarok has been delayed to from 2022 to 2023.

If the sources turn out to be correct and Sony does delay the game to 2023, this wouldn't be the first time the release date has been pushed back. It was first delayed in June 2021 from a 2021 release window to 2022 release window.

As always this should be treated as a rumor until an official announcement is made.

God of War Ragnarok is in development for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Considering they haven't officially announced a release date how is pushing back a date which hasn't been announced a story?

Because it gets clicks.

It was re-confirmed as 2022 in recent accessibility video clips (literally weeks old), so I'm a bit suspicious of this rumour... but I know Sony sony prefers to leave Q4 to third parties, so if the game was internally delayed from a September target to later in the year, I could definitely see them having internal discussions on whether to push it to Q1 2023.

For context Sony already has marketing deals for Hogwarts, Avatar and has Forsaken (and potentially a live service game) as Q4 exclusives.

We won't have to wait long to find out, either we're getting a SOP in a few weeks or a delay announcement.

I've been thinking it was gonna get delayed for a while now. Otherwise they would have shown us a lot more.

That's what our response was for Starfield haha. But, I do think the delay would've been announced by now if it was going to end up being in 2023. So I am optimistic for a 2022 release still.

There's no significant marketing for GOW right now. It is a AAA title. They have a pre release full fledged marketing cycle of at least 4 months and usually more. So, if they'll not update about the game by June then consider the game delayed.

Elden Ring Goty, every other big games were pushed to next year. GoW vs Zelda vs Starfield uh

The only game that I think can potentially compete is Hogwarts Legacy. Xenoblade 3 will be amazing but it won't have the popularity. Bayonetta 3 could compete as well considering Bayonetta 2 was a GOTY contender in 2014.

Rumors that were gave like a month ago and debunked, an old cycle.

A 31st December placeholder holder date usually means its not coming in the calendar year.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. That last Ragnarok update seemed really strangely placed. Why would we need to know what level the devs are working on? It just seemed like a way to get ahead of the delay without having to actually announce a delay at that time. If they pull it off for this year it'll be a miracle.

Cutting it close, but it is coming. No losers here. Glad I was wrong.

No big game release is safe these days until it's less than a month from release and the release date is still the same.
