The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel Delayed to Spring 2023

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel Delayed to Spring 2023 - News

Nintendo announced it has delayed the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from a 2022 release window to Spring 2023. It will launch for the Nintendo Switch.

"We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game," said The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma in a video message. "However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologize.

"As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. However, the expanded world goes beyond that, and there will be an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and new gameplay elements.

"In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a little longer."

I don't think Zelda fans will lose much sleep over this but it is a bit of a downer.

I don't know why but I actually had a feeling it would release on time. Usually I am the opposite about big AAA title release dates but perhaps due to Zelda being so spaced out in between installments it gave me the false impression things would land right on time.

Well, as long as the team uses the extra time to add that extra layer of polish I'm sure fans will be more than satisfied when it actually does release.

No big deal, I have a million games on my backlog and lack of free time as I work 80 hours per week.
Please Nintendo take as long as you need, make it the best game you possibly can.

never rush art or artists. if it makes life and work easier for Nintendo's workers and could ultimately result in a better product, I'm all for it

Well shit. Really thought 5 years (since BotW) would be enough, but if the game ends up better for it then it's of course for the best.

2022 christmas were already well packed with Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokemon, and others (along with all the first party games being released from summer to winter). So it was a reasonable move to delay it in order to start 2023 with a big launch with this and maybe end it with Metroid Primer 4 or Super Mario Oddysey Sequel.

Not suprised. The game went dark and barely any news for it.
