The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

February 2022 is the 16th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Nintendo Wii when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 811,076 units and by 5,14 million units in the last 12 months. The Nintendo Wii is ahead of the PlayStation 5 by 4.15 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 18.04 million units in 16 months, while the Nintendo Wii sold 22.20 million units. Month 16 for the PlayStation 5 is February 2022 and for the Nintendo Wii it is February 2008.

The Nintendo Wii crossed 20 million in month 15, 30 million in month 21, and 40 million in month 26. The Nintendo Wii sold 101.63 million units lifetime.

Maybe in 3rd year. With the chip restraints and the introduction of Microsoft's multi-billion developer acquisitions, Sony has lesser appeal for them to make a strong run. People nowadays are pretty aware of the news regarding the two consoles. Sony has to come up with something strong for them to catch up to the Wii. Remember, it was a phenomenon.

Add to this the success of the Series S. It has been the big surprise at the start of the new generation.

The lack of stock led to PS5 fall back in the holidays, but going into the year Wii maintains a higher momentum overall. So this lead seems to be more than a temporary thing.
