Nintendo Delays Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Due to Recent World Events - News

Nintendo of America announced it has delayed Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp from April 8 to an unannounced date due to the recent world events.

"In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on April 8th," reads a tweet from Nintendo of America.

"Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date."

Here is an overview of the game:

Rally the Troops! Advance Wars is Marching to Nintendo Switch

Command an army in strategic, turn-based combat as a tactical adviser for the Orange Star Army. Your expertise is needed as you move land, air, and naval units across the battlefield. Take down enemy squads and capture towns and bases to secure victory and keep the peace. Keep an eye on the game-changing terrain and weather as you lead a variety of units across multiple maps. This remake features two campaigns that cover the events of Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising!

Fight Alongside Capable Commanding Officers

Defend your land with the help of Andy, Max, Sami, and other Commanding Officers, each with their own specialties and CO Powers. Andy can repair units, while Sami can boost the abilities of troops. Your opponents can use CO abilities of their own too! Throughout both campaigns, the COs you meet play a critical role both on the battlefield and in the story.

Recruit Some Friends and See Who the Superior Strategist Is

When you aren’t busy keeping the peace in one of the two campaign stories, flex your army-commanding chops in Versus Mode**. Up to four players can battle on dozens of maps. Each player chooses a CO from either campaign and can strategically use their CO Powers to turn the tides of battle. Customize your combat with options like funds per allied base and fog of war.

So, anyone who is disappointed in this delay, I HIGHLY recommend downloading War Groove. It is essentially an Advance Wars game in every respect except the license, so it should scratch the same itch, and it's an excellent game in general.

I looked up reviews on Wargroove and the first video was IGN's review and the video started with "Someone at Chucklefish clearly got tired of waiting for Nintendo to bring back Advance Wars" xD I'll check it out!

Already have it, but agree as a recommendation to anyone who does not. Tiny Metal is another decent one. It didn't review as highly as Wargroove, but I enjoyed it. According to NintendoLife, the sequel (Tiny Metal Full Metal Rumble) surpasses both it's predecessor and WarGroove as best Advance Wars clone. I still have to check that one out.

I am very sad. 2nd delay for one of my most anticipated titles. I sort of get it though...

Let's be real, if Nintendo didn't delay this, people on social media would say that the Blue Moon faction is fearmongering about Russia.

I kind of get it... but I hope this doesn't get scrapped altogether.

The game has to be just about if not finished at this point. I doubt it'll get scrapped altogether.

Nintendo has a history of not releasing completely finished titles. Star Fox 2 for example.

Yeah but the difference there was, at least coming from Miyamoto, was with the N64 releasing soon at that time, and the super fx 2 chip costing quite a bit to manufacture, it led to the cancellation and decided to move towards Star Fox 64. On top of the 32-bit consoles being released at that time while the game was in development. So not exactly the same scenario lol

It is what it is. I’m looking forward to the game, but it’s the least consequential loss I can think of from Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Nintendo’s heart is in the right place here.

In times past, a war in Ukraine might have actually been an impetus to release a game where the bad guys are a caricature of the bad guys in the real-life conflict.

Trust me, I do get the disappointment. I guess I'll just replay Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles 4 in the meantime.

So do I, along with Putin being arrested, tried, and hanged for war crimes. That would also send a message to the Central Committee of the CPC that attacking Taiwan would be a huge and possibly fatal mistake for Chinese leadership.

Such a bizarre crazy decision. Like imagine if all Call of Duty games were delayed indefinitely due to Iraq and Afghanistan wars so that Call of Duty games simply had never come out and the series didn't exist.

Sooo bizarre. Is Nintendo determined to weaken their legendary year of games? Hopefully it will just be pushed back to later this year. Hearing about this I thought it was someone's idea of an early April Fool's Day joke. Yet another truly crazy decision by Nintendo.

Nintendo has a family friendly brand image to maintain whereas Activision doesn't give a damn lol

One of the armies in the games you can play as are effectively the Russians good luck marketing that at this moment in time.

It’s happened before. Rockstar delayed Grand Theft Auto III in 2001 because the faux New York had a parody of the World Trade Center. It was also kind of personal to them since Rockstar is based in NYC.

wonder if CoD will get delayed too if this war drags on?

I think the difference here is that Advance Wars has a very bright and sunny take on war.

One of my most awaited games this year, a bit disappointed but to be honest I wouldn't have time to play it until next year, I have around 50 unplayed games both on ps5 and switch. Just not enough free time, working 70-80 hours per week.

Don't forget Advance Wars (GBA) was released on September 10th, 2001.
