Nintendo Denies Reports it is Working on a 4K Switch - News

Bloomberg reported this week employees at 11 video game studios said their teams have a 4K development kit for the Switch. The companies range from large publishers to small studios, and at least one of them has never made a console before, Zynga.

Nintendo has now released a statement via Twitter denying the claims of a 4K Nintendo Switch and said the reports were "not true." Nintendo has "no plans for any new model" besides the upcoming Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

"A news report on Sept. 30, 2021 (JST) falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support," said Nintendo in a statement. "To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true.

"We also want to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, which will launch on October 8, 2021."

The Nintendo Switch OLED Model will release on October 8 for $349.99. It will be available in White and Neon Red / Neon Blue color variations. It features a 7-inch OLED screen, a new dock with a wired LAN port, 64GB of internal storage, and enhanced audio for handheld and tabletop play.

I mean, they clearly ARE working on something. These hardware teams are always setting the groundwork for the next product.

If there is no 4K switch, and they want to answer calls for a sharper image on modern televisions, it follows that the next product is not a revised Switch model.

So, basically it's either believe Nintendo or believe 11 different studios?

Most likely it's just the latest dev kit version , just has they do with their Software Development Kits the big 3 also upgrade their hardware dev kits over their various consoles lifetimes so those kits are most likely just the latest versions and also any form of 4K capability in a dev kit doesn't automatically herald 4K Switch development. it would also would explain why a studio without a gaming track record would receive one .

Bloomberg rummors turns out false more often than I care to count, so I`ll believe Nintendo on it, the next gen Switch is likely something that will still take 2 years to launch and hardly would have any devkit over there, much less to company that never developed to console before.

The OLED model was the last chance imo to introduce 4K for Switch. We should see a Switch successor in early 2024 with more power and 4K support.

It may not be a Switch model, but maybe a dock that do just like a Blackmagic eGPU do for a MacBook Pro?

The Switch doesn’t have the capabilities to do something like that. Premium Apple and Intel notebooks have access to the latest versions of Thunderbolt where they could connect to something like RX 6600XT or RTX 3060 for a big performance boost.

Switch doesn’t have the spare PCIe lanes that would be needed or even the high end version of the USB-C port that could deliver the signal if they had the lanes.

If I understood correctly, the OLED model should be the 4k model. But there were not enough new chips and Nintendo decided to use the old chip or not to use it at all if the chip should only be in the dock.
