PlayStation Plus Reportedly to Add a More Expensive Tier Including Crunchyroll - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 September 2021 / 5,697 ViewsSony Interactive Entertainment might be planning to add a more expensive tier to PlayStation Plus, which includes a subscription to Crunchyroll. This is according to a Eurogamer report.
Sony first announced its plan to acquire Crunchyroll in December 2020 and this week it completed its acquisition from AT&T for $1.175 billion.
Sony's plan is for Crunchyroll to join Funimation, which Sony already owns. Now that the deal has closed Crunchyroll and Funimation are one company and will work together going forward.
"With Crunchyroll and Funimation, we are committed to creating the ultimate anime experience for fans and presenting a unique opportunity for our key partners, publishers, and the immensely talented creators to continue to deliver their masterful content to audiences around the world," said Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment Tony Vinciquerra.
"With the addition of Crunchyroll, we have an unprecedented opportunity to serve anime fans like never before and deliver the anime experience across any platform they choose, from theatrical, events, home entertainment, games, streaming, linear TV -- everywhere and every way fans want to experience their anime. Our goal is to create a unified anime subscription experience as soon as possible."

I'm still getting Crunchyroll for $60 a year. I hope this won't force me into the higher price...
If they don't get the apps to function properly I wont care. Last time I used the funimation app it was horrible.
It works a little different on PS4, TV, PC and phone. But yes in general crunchy app is much better and netflix is miles better.
Netflix is the gold standard for me. Every other streaming service only goes down hill from there by varying degrees. Good to hear the Crunchy app is better though maybe they'll just move over to that system.
Whatever they decide to bundle will be great or suck depending on what they decide to price it. For me for example I have zero interest in a psnow type service for that $60. Would they give it to me for $30 since I already have ps+? I would probably jump on that. Crunchy roll is the same. I would not pay the current price of it. Let's see what happens if they bundle it.
I could see this being part of their competition to gamepass.
Playstation plus + Playstation Now (maybe rebranded)+ media like chrunchyroll for $19.99 per month. I don't see them trying to undercut MS
I'm all for it
If it ended in saving I would like a PS+ with Funimation and Crunchyroll on them, perhaps even another tier with PSNow although I don't think I would sub to it.
I can see them also bundling it with Netflix or something, attractive to both Netflix and Sony since it helps solidify them as "must subscribe" and just tend to keep people using those services over looking elsewhere, with Sony perhaps benefitting from the intelligence/tracking on Netflix's side, which could also be of interest to the rest of their Film/TV division. A bundle discount with Netflix and PS+ would also be seen as a straight discount by alot of people.
Netflix have been looking into ways to increase the price of their sub so I think it is unlikely, but sure I wouldn't mind the option of sub subs or bundle like Prime give us.
I am so down!
Maybe addd 10 bucks on top of 60 haha!
Considering that my fiancé had his PSN/PSPlus account banned due to a refund on something he didn't buy... this won't be much benefit. We'll keep them separate.
