Deadline reports Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are working on a film based on the PlayStation 4 game Ghost of Tsushima. John Wick director Chad Stahelski is set to direct the movie.

Also revealed in the report is that Ghost of Tsushima has sold over 6.5 million units worldwide since it launched for the PS4 in July 2020. Sucker Punch Productions developed the game.

Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing the film through their 87Eleven Entertainment company. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will produce on behalf of PlayStation Productions. Sucker Punch Productions will be executive producers.

"We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen," said PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash.

"We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences."

And is also getting a movie. The movie might boost sales of the sequel.

2.4 millions after 3 days
5 millions after 4 months
6.5 millions after 7 months and a half.

Not bad for a new IP.

What I don't like about completely Asian-themed movies made in Hollywood are the limitation of good actors. Only American-Asian actors (i.e. either born in or living since a long time in North-America) will be chosen. Except maybe for some (almost) non-speaking roles or small supporting roles they will not hire people from Asia. The reason is English. Hollywood accepts only a certain quality of English. While a certain degree of accent is okay, the people from non-English speaking countries abroad (and especially from Asia) have a too bad English (not judged by myself but by Hollywood).

If you ad that for this movie, martial arts skills are also necessary, you will come down to the usual handful of American-Asian actors and quite frankly, most of them are simply not good enough actors. to carry such a movie!

They can always try the route of old movies from Schwaznegger and Jackie Chan with someone dubbing them.

Hmm...didn’t GoT sell like 4mil in its first month? So I feel like 2.5mil over the subsequent 7mo is disappointing? Maybe I’m off base, though. And ultimately, even if sales have slowed, 6.5mil in 8mo for a new IP, esp one that goes against mainstream trends in some ways, is phenomenal. I have my copy and can’t wait to play it after I beat Bloodborne in a few days (yes, late to the game ;)

Sales for most non-nintendo games are relatively frontloaded. 2.5mil in 7mo is pretty good. Especially for a new IP.
