This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo DS.

PlayStation 4 Vs. DS Europe:

Gap change in latest month: 195,217 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,176,995 – PS4

Total Lead: 3,733,217 - DS

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 46,697,469

DS Total Sales: 50,430,686

July 2020 is the 81st month that the PlayStation 4 has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared with the Nintendo DS during the same timeframe by 195,217 units and by 2.18 million units in the last 12 months. The Nintendo DS currently leads by 3.73 million units.

The DS launched in March 2005 in Europe, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, that is why you see spikes and dips. The DS is the best-selling platform in Europe in the last two video game generations, while the PlayStation 4 comes in second place.

The 81st month on sale for the PlayStation 4 in Europe is July 2020, while for the Nintendo DS it is November 2011. The PlayStation 4 has sold 46.70 million units, while the Nintendo DS sold 50.43 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS ended up selling 51.84 million units lifetime in Europe. The PlayStation 4 is currently 5.14 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Nintendo DS.

PS4 really is a monster in Europe. I absolutely think it can pass DS sales here. Or at least it will be very very close.

This one might go towards PS4 unless they really aren't producing new stock like everyone keeps saying

Yep. A few months ago I was completely sure it would win this, but if they do phase out the PS4 quicker than previous consoles, then it's sudenly more up in the air. Can't sell 52 mil, if Sony doesn't ship 52 mil.
