Team17 Announces Alien Breed Evolution - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 17 July 2009 / 2,448 ViewsWorms developer Team17 have announced that they will be remaking their 1991 retro Amiga game Alien Breed into a ‘retro-modern’ remake called Alien Breed Evolution using Unreal Engine 3. Alien Breed was the game that put Team17 on the map back in the day.
Over the past few days, Team17 developers attended Develop 2009 held in Brighton, UK and also divulged some information to Gamesindustry.biz and vg247.com. Alien Breed Evolution will in fact be a trilogy and has already cost $2.5 million so far. Their hopes are for the game to “appeal to the Gears of War crowd, the Halo crowd, and all the rest of it.” There are more interesting tidbits in their interviews, especially in regards to how much more competitive and challenging it is for games on XBLA these days.
The game is slated to include a single player and co-op feature, and will be heading first to XBLA by the end of this year according to Digital Spy, and then to PSN and PC later. More news should be arriving this summer.

PRESS RELEASE
Breeding Brilliant!
Team17 returns to it's roots with a stunning remake of Alien Breed.
Team17 are absolutely delighted to formally confirm the return of one of it’s most cherished properties in ALIEN BREED EVOLUTION.
The Unreal3 powered next-gen title, part of Team17’s quality, independent digital line-up is a drop-dead gorgeous “retro-modern” remake of the game that helped Team17 burst onto the Amiga scene 18years ago.
Featuring an action packed, tense single player adventure and an absolute blast of a co-op game, Alien Breed Evolution helps raise the production bar on download-only titles and underlines Team17’s re-energised momentum since deciding to become an independent publisher in the digital distribution era.
Video footage, more shots, details and platform confirmations will be forthcoming later in the summer.
Team17 can be reached at 'pr@team17.com'.

The original title was released in 1991, the first of a series of Amiga games that required 1Mb of RAM to play. The title was a great success and underpinned success for both Team17 and the Alien Breed name, which returned for several sequels in the early 90's. Alien Breed Special Edition in 1992, released at a budget price point, spent 33 weeks at the No.1 UK budget chart position.

Looks like fun, I have been enjoying Alien Shooter Vengeance downloaded off of steam and it is only $5.00. This one looks like a great title for co-op.
I agree with Waron though. Episodic at $10-$15 a pop. Probably not worth it (IMO).
it was awesome until they announced that this will be episodic game with first part that will give you 3 hour gameplay and will cost 10-15$. no, thank you.
Alien Breed is one of my favourite co-op games ever. The graphics update is stunning. If they keep the original's manic /terrifying gameplay they'll have a huge seller on their hands. 4 player co-op would be great but perhaps a bit too busy in the enclosed environments. I've been waiting for Team17 to do something other than milk the worms franchise.
Unreal Engine 3 is like a noobs guide to gaming engines.
its so easy to develop for, which is both good and bad
Good cause it means more games
bad cause the games would look almost the same.
