The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

PS4 Vs. XOne US:

Gap change in latest month: 42,348 – PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 605,904 – PS4

Total Lead: 3,320,449 – PS4

PS4 Total Sales: 25,287,091

Xbox One Total Sales: 21,966,642

In August 2018 the gap in the US between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One grew in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 sold 42,348 more units than the Xbox One in the last month.  The PlayStation 4 also sold 605,904 more units in the last year.  The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 3.32 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Xbox One launched on November 22, 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 25.029 Million units, while the Xbox One has sold 21.97 million units.

Sony taking control of the lead this gen shows that change of leadership was critical. Hopefully next gen they improve even further on customer happiness.

Considering they’ve opened up to cross play, announced they’re finally doing ID change, and are heavily rumored to be going all in on BC next gen, I think it’s safe to say that Sony’s only goal with PS5 is making it the most satusfying gaming console that money can buy.
