CryEngine V has launched with a "Pay What You Want" business model. Developers have access to everything the engine has to offer for free. There is no obligation to pay royalties or service charges.

The engine includes a marketplace that enables developers to access individual assets from Crytek's own library and thousands of assets created by the community.
"CryEngine V represents our commitment to not only offering developers today’s most advanced engine technology, but also to making it as accessible as possible," said Crytek’s Founder, CEO & President, Cevat Yerli. "The arrival of CryEngine Marketplace, the revamped engine UI, and new support channels will make it easier than ever to tap into the power of CryEngine – at a price that feels comfortable for each and every individual. Community is at the heart of our Pay What You Want Model, which we hope will foster closer collaboration between us and developers as well as developers amongst themselves."

Loving this trend of free engines. I'm not a developer and don't plan to be but if I did decide to dabble it's nice to know there's a low barrier of entry.
We have a bunch of great future devs that are just now learning their first line of code, how awesome.
Did I miss something, was there a Cry Engine 4? Regardless this looks very promising.
That's what I tought too, but I think lately they've been simply calling it CryEngine. Anyway, Crysis used CryEngine 2, and the Crysis games after that used CryEngine 3. All Crysis games were released for 7th gen consoles though, which leaves CryEngine 4 for 8th gen consoles. I don't know if that's the case but it makes sense.
I think we have a winner in the game engine price race. This is awesome!
