Popular digital distribution service Steam has hit a new milestone. There are now 100 million active users and more than 3,700 titles. Also in the last nine months 1,300 titles have been added.

Valve is adding to Stream by releasing the Steam Discovery Update. It offers personalized recommendations and more detailed filters while making searches. Valve has stated it will make finding games that interest users easier.

"We have made great efforts to increase the number of titles we can publish on Steam, which means more choices for customers," said Steam Support Team's Alden Kroll. "This update introduces multiple features and functionality to help customers explore Steam's growing catalog and find the games they are most interested in playing."

There is also Steam Curators which are "individuals, organizations, and groups that publish reviews and recommendations in a public forum on Steam." The Curators picks will show up on the home page and activity feed. You will be allowed to comment and rate the recommendations. Steam will know which games you rate highly and which ones you rate poorly, which will improve what games it recommends to you in the future.

Would be interesting to see some real numbers from them. The way steam counts active users means if you have it installed and running and have ever purchased something then you are an active user. Everyone in my family is an active user though I am the only person to have even played a game from steam in the last 2 years.

While true. Not everyone with a playstation plays games either Both my parents and my uncle only use it to play Blu-Rays and have 1 game they bought with the console 5 years ago. I imagine steam has more "active" users that don't use it, than playstation.

So where is the "100 million users = 10 games from your wishlist FOR FREE" celebration?

"Active" is a big word. They are registered users. The real active (concurrent) are just above 6 million. And of those right now less than half a million is playing games.

Just google "steam stats".
