It's amazing how much the 3DS dominates so many charts, and yet still sells less software than the DS.

But then you have to remember that lots of DS games are sold for 3DS systems (and the massive 150 mil. install base of course).

It seems the gap between 3DS and DS sales is closing in. Hopefully the 3DS can keep it's SW sales up since it has nothing to worry about with it's HW! :-D

"Total year on year sales are up 10,000 (1%) only because of the next generation of handhelds, the 3DS and Vita."

Actually, Vita + PSP is still less than PSP alone one year ago. 3DS alone pushed up a YoY increase.

To me -3 % or +4 % is flat as VGC accuracy is not good enough (just look at yearly adjustments), this is like the GDP : real competent economists don't use/trust GDP growth rates as the accuracy is weak (+ or - 3%, and media and gov talk about growth rates of 0 to 3 % all the time : that is bullshit !) To VGC : up to which rate could we say flat according to your accuracy ?

...so I don't see any downturn and a need for 720 and PS4, even more as SW flat ! (and still positive for PS3 in France for example)

If 3DS and DS SW sales remain so close in the coming weeks would that mean that there's only about 15m DS users among the 140m gamers that bought it and used to play/buy on it ?

I've been asking myself the very same thing. Software sales on the DS are incredibly low for the DS given the massive install base. It seems like dust collector in very many peoples homes.

the 360 certainly shifted some s/ware over the holiday months,is the vita going to get up off the floor, someone needs to help it, nearly back to normal and then into the desert,we have to wait along time for the excitement again but i suppose we have the wiiu and global vita sales to look forward to

So some people complain' that 360 number must be low, when it's only 10% off same week last year, and, as people like to keep pointing out, no price cut for 360 for 2 (or is it 3) years.

Now PS3 being down YoY 3% despoite $50 off is something Sony would not have expected, I would think. Though it's not so much down that damage control PR is needed. But if PS3 trends below 2011 for Q1, 2 & 3 that will be a "time to get moving on PS4" signal if ever there was one. And of course another $50 price cut to keep sales going until PS4 actually arrives.

You got to remember that 360 still is cheaper then ps3.

"However with the DS and 3DS combined it is up 202,000 compared to the DS one year ago." I'm just curious why doesn't this site combine the Vita and PSP sales numbers to make the Vita or PSP look better?

Is it just to make Nintendo look good when everyone knows the DS is dead now? Why must it be pointed out that both systems combined look better than just the DS numbers?

Well, firstly, the Vita is only released in Japan, so they might just wanna wait to make it a more fair comparison.

Secondly, as the Vita + PSP combined still means PSP down YoY, that would only make Vita seem worse, don't you think?

You and I must have a different definition of "doing well". HW & SW both down over 30% YoY doesn't seem to fit my definition of doing well.

Other than 3DS, which doesn't have a YoY to compare to, but undoubtedly it's early YoY comparisons will be very favouable, all the consoles are merely holding on.

Relative to how it could be doing, I'd say yes. The console has an explosive curve very unlike xbox's, so its hanging on with the other two I think is a feat.
