VGChartz is celebrating the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic by looking at the sales of every Star Wars game released from 2005 to today. There have been 15 games released in the franchise since 2005, including four in the LEGO series. The sales data included are through the week of November 26 and was collected when the data was broken down by Americas, EMEAA and Japan.

The sales history will be broken down into four articles. The first of which will be looking at the sales of every platform combined. The second will focus on the games released on a Sony platform will be up tomorrow, the third on the games released on a Microsoft platform will be up on Wednesday, and the fourth will focus on the games released on a Nintendo platform will be up on Thursday.

Sales of All Platforms Combined

Star Wars Video Game Global Sales

The global sales of Star Wars games fluctuate from nearly 12 million for the best selling game, all the way down to just 200,000. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is the only Star Wars game to break the 10 million barrier, while the top five games have sold more than five million units. The top 11 have sold more than one million units, while the bottom four haven’t cracked one million sold. The top nine games have been released on three or more platforms, while the bottom six games are only one one or two platforms.

The LEGO games are by far the most popular series of Star Wars games, selling a combined 28.26 million units. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga combines the games LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy along with some extra. It is the best selling game with sales of 11.90 million units.

Other series of Star Wars games include The Force Unleashed, Battlefront, and The Clone Wars. The Force Unleashed series has sold 10.88 million units. The Battlefront series has sold 8.93 million units and The Clone Wars series has sold 3.97 million units.

Star Wars Video Game America Sales

Star Wars game sales in the Americas vary from over seven million sold down to 206,000. Like with the global sales LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is the best selling game in the franchise. The top two games sold five million units or more and the top 10 have sold one million units or more. The top nine games have been released on three or more platforms, while the bottom six games are only one one or two platforms.

Star Wars Video Game EMEAA Sales

Star Wars game sales in EMEAA vary from over four million sold down to 77,000. Like with the global and America sales LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is the best selling game in the franchise. The top seven games have sold one million or more units and the top 10 have sold half a million or more. The top nine games have been released on three or more platforms, while the bottom six games are only one one or two platforms.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed Sales

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed  sold 2.96 million units in its opening month with 1.71 million of that in the Americas. While the gap between the Americas and EMEAA has grown it remains within 1.5 million units. The game was more front loaded than LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. It has been selling around 20,000 units each month in the Americas and less than 10,000 in EMEAA.

I still believe that the Super Star Wars games that came out on the snes are the best ones. Platforming at its best

That's fun, I was thinking "too bad the analyze only from 2005 and no Super Star Wars in it" : that's the only one Star Wars game I played, during my teenagehood, it was not such a great game in what I remember but not a bad game...

you know lego star wars and force unleashed are the only star wars games this generation. since force unleashed sucks and lego star wars is online marginally better due to length and value. I'm pretty sure if battlefront 3 came out it would sell more then lego star wars, as for many gamers star wars battlefront 1 and 2 are very fond memories.

Yeah I know, it's ironic since this is to celebrate SWTOR, a PC game, but you guys do realize that there is no PC listed for any of these games... that is why PC only games are not on the list, it's console only stats.

Stefl1504 (on 19 December 2011)

I am mising Star Wars: Empire at War on the list, i know it was PC only but it was released Feb. 2006...

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I always remembered enjoying the one, I believe it was Revenge of the Sith, where you played as Obi Wan and Anakin at certain parts. Then at the end you could either make Obi Wan or Anakin win the fight. I might have to play that game again. Also anyone remember that crappy Star Wars fighting game? The one with "Hor"? lol

12m LegoSW 1 is huge, more than any Zelda, any Final Fantasy, etc. I never heard or played any Lego Star Wars game and I play video games since 1987... that's weird I missed this series !

What about the Knights of the Old Republic games? Last time I checked, KotOR sold 2 million and KotOR II sold 1.3 million.

Those games came out before 2005, which is as far back as their list goes for this article.
