Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Pre Orders Top 6.5m Worldwide - News

by Miles Taven , posted on 07 November 2011 / 17,652 Views

Final pre order data is in for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which will shortly become the biggest videogame launch of all time.

VGChartz estimates around 6.5 million pre orders have been placed on Modern Warfare 3, up 1.5 million over last year's Black Ops, and 2.2 million over the last Modern Warfare. Predictably, America sees the largest share of pre orders, holding just over 60%. Also - unsurprisingly - the X360 SKU managed 60% of total pre orders, with the PS3 version at 35% and the last 5% split between Wii and PC SKUs (moreso the latter, however).

Check back on Wednesday when we'll have full day one figures.

I am not too excited. Unless they don't make some serious change there is no way I'm spending a cent on Call of DUty

It appears every year the hate increase, but sales increases. The fanbase is expanding like crazy.

I'm likely getting it for co-op. I'm big on co-op and MW2 had a great co-op mode.

Yeah! Another Call of Duty. Man I already can't wait until the next one. Hell, I'm already pumped up for the one after the next one. Tonight I'm playing four call of duties at the same time. I just can't get enough call of duty, I need at least like 5 more iterations. Come at me bro.

That means WW Pre-orders directly translate into 3.9 million 360 sales, and 2.275 million PS3 sales. Biggest Call of Duty ever. Maybe biggest WW debut?

I expect massive hardware boosts for both PS3 and 360.

Funny, even though it's just over 5% of the combined install base, as a non-CoD player I somehow feel in the minority.

appears to be this one week out estimate, not total estimate. They have 4 million for North America and that number is from the pre order chart they have which is for last week ending Nov 4th.

6.5 million, holy goodness thats insane.

This is indeed looking to break some serious records. One more hour till I get the game myself, so I'll be contributing 1 more copy to their sales.

Well, ill be there first thing tomorrow morning, trading Black Ops and using a gift card to purchase this game....at least my Black Ops copy can work for something(such a horrible game to the standards of other CoD games and Mw series), if Mw3 sucks, which i doubt, ill be back to Mw2.

MW3 isn't made by the same people who made MW1 and 2 so don't get your hopes up.

How'd VgChartz get EMEAA pre-order data?
Anyway MW3 will be MASSIVE!
I'm jealous of all those who got their copy early :/

What am I saying, sorry we do a preview (got confused for a second). For big games we do track pre orders elsewhere
