Return to San Andreas for Grand Theft Auto V? - News

by Jake Weston , posted on 26 October 2011 / 5,303 Views

Speculation came abound when Rockstar officially announced Grand Theft Auto V, the next entry in the long-running crime series. Of course, most of the speculation came in the form of wondering just where the next numbered game would take place: Boston? London? Moscow?

Well, it looks like we have our answer. According to Kotaku, a source close to the game has stated that Grand Theft Auto V will take place in Los Angeles, or at least a fictionalized version of it.

Los Angeles represents familiar territory for Rockstar, having created a version of it in 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as well as this year's L.A. Noire, which meticulously depicted the city in a 1940's setting. Without an official announcement from Rockstar though, this is still in the rumor category, albeit a fairly likely one.

Earlier this year, I joked with my friend about how it would be funny if Rockstar used L.A. Noire's design for Los Angeles in future titles. Well, provided this rumor's validity, it looks like this might end up being the truth.

What do you think about a return to L.A. for Grand Theft Auto? Let us know in the comments!

Well, San Andreas was BY FAR the best GTA, so I'd love to go back there!

I'm all for it.

If this will be able to capture even just a fraction of fun that San Andreas was then I'll be happy.

The also did Midnight Club LA. They need to go somewhere else, like Gautier, MS.

I wouldn't mind it being in an area like San Andreas, but I would like to see a new setting.

Los Santos =/= San Andreas. It's one of the three cities.

What set San Andreas apart was the diversity of the environment. You weren't stuck in the same city the whole time. And, more importantly, there was a lot of countryside: rural settlements, valleys, mountains, deserts. It was extremely nice to have that balance.

Rockstar, please bring back this type of environment. Red Dead Redemption was the other end of the spectrum. I wish they had included San Francisco or some large city in addition to the awesome natural setting. Also, the mountainous area should have been way bigger because it was by far the coolest.

The exciting and diverse missions from San Andreas would be a welcome return to form as well.

Now to sit back and wait for Rockstar to fulfill my every wish.

Why can't they go somewhere new? The first GTA on PC featured 3 cities, Ney York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Now it seems all GTA's are just these locations rehashed. They should be back to London again.

I'm still suspecting Vegas.

But San Andreas was a masterpiece, if the game takes place there I won't complain.
