Bulletstorm Sales Helped by Fox News Controversy - News

If you’ve been following the latest Bulletstorm news, you might have heard a recent controversy regarding the game and Fox News where they said the game "turns people into rapists." Mike Capps, Epic Games President,  had this to say about the situation while talking to Industrygamers:

"There are two ways to answer the question. The first is what it does for Bulletstorm and the second is what it does for the industry. For what it did for Bulletstorm... yes, there were people who were very excited about any attention at all. For a game that's over-the-top, they probably helped sell more units than they convinced people to pick at us."

He was also pleased that the industry media defended it, saying, “Every journalist said this Fox report is junk... It's wonderful to see a media that's defending free speech."

Bulletstorm has only been out for a couple of weeks and it’s doing quite well, at least according to Mike Capps. "We got a reorder on day one from one of the big U.S. retailers that focuses on games," Capps told us during GDC, likely referring to GameStop. "So that was a pretty good feeling."

I’m guessing that including a Gears of War 3 beta invite with Bulletstorm: Epic Edition certainly helped just a wee bit. So, what other games out there should Fox News “help” out next?

Hmmm, well it looks like it needed all the help it could get, even the negative type ;-P

LOL @ Fox News "helping" sales of Bulletstorm... nobody would have even heard of the Fox article if it hadn't been picked up gaming media outlets like this one and even "promoted" by Epic themselves!

And I can guarantee you that NOBODY bought the game because of the Fox News article... all those pre-orders were just so ppl guaranteed themselves access to the Gears 3 beta... getting the game was just a nice bonus! If Epic hadn't bundled the beta with Bulletstorm, I bet you the game's sales would barely be half of what they are!

a shooter that have no competitor multiplayer mode?
i don't care about the co-op and "kill with skill" slow motion crap.
i was looking forward to the game until the reviews said "no competitor multiplayer" and i just never care about it anymore.
i don't care about buying to get Gears 3 beta, its useless.
i'll just get the game when it come out.
if i want to play Gears 3 beta, i'll just pop in Gears 2 and said it was Gears 3 beta.

Gotta love those conservative republicans over at Fox news. I guess a big thanks to them is in order.

Yes I am sure conservatives aging at 50+(their core audience) bought this game in droves.

Good job Fox News. Once again, your attempt to sabotage sales or interest in a game has only boosted its sales and interest. FOX FAIL.

It wouldn't sell at all without the news then? What sales it did do are bleh. So much for trying to "fuck with Killzone", Cliff.

I'd hate to see how much it would have sold without Fox News, then.

Man!!! I'm tired of this spammers...get a life!!below me

And all I have to say is...i guess PS3 owners don't watch the news frequently and definitely don't want to be rapist. Amd I will say it again, very BAD decition releasing Bulletstorm along side KZ3, as proven by sales, is it would have release in a copuple of weeks from the 22nd, then it would have sold quite a few more games but w/ Cliff dissing out on "all PS3" he just lost my sale and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. Plus, it lacks quite a few things that do not make it "over-the-top".
