Data compiled for October 1st through November 2nd

With the 'Summer of Arcade' promotion two months behind us, Xbox Live Arcade is experiencing a dip in sales with no new major heavy hitters since the massive promotion in July and August of this year. Old titles continue to roost toward the top of the list, while South Park: Lets Go Tower Defense Play! was the best selling new addition of the month.

Sales were off 25% during the same period last year, earning $5.3 million USD among all available titles compared to $7.0 million USD last year.

Only South Park managed to land in the top 10 list in terms of revenue for the month, with a solid 45,000 units sold during the tracking period. It debuted alongside new episodes on October 7th.

Trials HD continues to see incredible sales, as we estimate that 350,000 units have been sold since its launch in August of this year. Although it is not the fastest selling title of the year, it has held consistently high marks since it launched. It's performance is strikingly similar to Castle Crashers which has seen solid sales numbers month in and month out. Battlefield 1943 ranked #2 in overall revenue, up from #3 last month. It reduced its monthly sales numbers by 35% from the month prior, but should stabilize going forward.

Top 10 Games, by Revenue for October 2009:

Title Name Developer Units Sold Current Price
Trials HD RedLynx, LTD 46,511 $15.00
Battlefield 1943 EA Dice 31,592 $15.00
South Park: Lets Go Tower Defense Play! DoubleSix 45,576 $10.00
Shadow Complex Chair Entertainment 29,692 $15.00
Castle Crashers The Behemoth 17,243 $15.00
Zombie Apocalypse Nhilistic Software 23,949 $10.00
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Capcom 10,729 $15.00
Defense Grid Hidden Path Entertainment 9,244 $10.00
Turtles in Time: Reshelled Ubisoft Singapore 8,300 $10.00
'Splosion Man Twisted Pixel 8,105 $10.00

Forecast:

After 2 months of reduced sales, we believe that through a strong release schedule and more hardware sold, Xbox Live Arcade will see increases versus October, as was the case with 2008. We anticipate growth of 20-30% over October to $7.0m USD or more, depending on the types of titles released. 2009 will easily surpass 2008 in terms of overall revenue, reaching no less than $100 million USD in 2009 compared with $90 million USD in 2008.

Methodology:

Xbox Live Arcade sales are calculated via Xbox Live Gamertags, Leaderboards, and FADE polls.
