Pachter: PS5 and Project Scarlett Could be Priced at $399 - News

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter in an interview with GamingBolt said the specs for the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett suggest the price for consoles will be $500 at launch. However, he believes Microsoft will announce a price of $399 and Sony not wanting to fall behind in sales will set the same price for the PlayStation 5.
"The specs suggest $500 or so," said Pachter. "But my bias is that Microsoft will announce $399 and Sony will follow suit."
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer during an E3 live stream said, "the price will be important" for Project Scarlett. "Clearly price is one of these things people want to know, and as we’re kind of watching the cost of the components that are coming in, things like tearups and other things, trying to figure out what that price is going to be next year."
Microsoft will launch Project Scarlett in Holiday 2020, while Sony has yet to announce a release window of the PlayStation 5.

To be fair, XBO X is considered a premium product with a premium price (without being sold at a loss) and you get it already for 350 pretty often. Even the official price drops to 399 from time to time.
Next consoles will be sold at a loss to get a good market share and they are still almost 1,5 years away.
Not sure what the price will be but XBO X is a really different situation

What if there are variety of priced consoles at launch like a low end to high end models? These predictions might only make sense if its been confirmed if there is only one choice to start with.

I don't see how Scarlett possibly sells for under $500.
They also could not.
We have all seen numerous articles and rumours about the soon arrival of the PS5. The tension is building and the next generation will be so life like that reality and virtual reality will diminish.
Most of us on here live and breathe console wars and we look forward to the start of the next console sales wars. The tension and excitement is building and we look forward to the 4k or 8k HD console to emerge.
Console is a like a sports team. You loyally support your console of your choice and you defend it it like it is a God.
We have no idea when the PS5 but its arrival will send sales through the roof and the graphics of games should be a giant leap over the PS4.

Well, the specs being predicted by fanatics have been debunked, so may be right.
I could be being too optimistic, but I think that is why Sony is steadily rolling out more price bumps for Plus; to keep subscription revenue high and hardware costs low as a result. I just hope those stupid tariffs don’t do a lot of damage.

$400 to $500 is my guess. Scarlet will be $500 while the budget Xbox (possibly disc-less) priced at $400.
