Phil Spencer Wants Xbox Backwards Compatibility on PC

Phil Spencer Wants Xbox Backwards Compatibility on PC - News

Xbox Backwards Compatibility might be making its way to Windows PC in the future, according to head of Xbox Phil Spencer in an interview with PC Gamer.

"Yes," said Spencer when asked if the emulation will make its way to the PC in the future.

"I want people to be able to play games!" he said. "[Emulation] is hard. [Xbox] 360 specifically is a PowerPC chip, emulated to x86, which is difficult. It's a little bit easier when you have a fixed spec, when you think about Xbox, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X. And you think of the variable specs of the PC space, so you're taking a fixed-spec PowerPC emulator and then moving it over to run on PC, so there's a lot of work there.

"The original Xbox, OG Xbox, is a little bit easier, because that was an x86 chip it was running on. Obviously when we think about UWP and the ability for games to run across console and PC, we're getting closer. I want developers to be able to build portable applications, which is why we've been focusing on UWP for games and even apps that want to run on multiple devices.

"So I think we've got work to go do there, but I think it's in our future."

It would bring attention to the Windows Store and that's the best reason to do it.

Will people on the PC even care about playing OG Xbox games?

P[eople have likely played OG XBOX games that already came to PC in the form of a port or emulation.

I don't see the XBOX pass working so well though and I sense a creeping pay to play online coming in the near future.

Love the Idea. I may even use the Win10 xbox store for it.

Phil should stop looking to the past and start looking into the near future of the Xbox brand.

A console without any exclusives, paid online and a CPU which is even a bigger bottleneck than the pro in the PS4. Why not buy a pc instead it´s not like you will miss a single game. Yet it´s way better investment that lasts for longer than 3 years.

MS should get credit for allowing more people to play their games via PC, but instead people just use that as an argument against Xbox, its so stupid. As long as you're playing Xbox or Windows 10, MS is happy.

The CPU has more bottleneck? It has less given its faster and the custom CPU can do more tasks with less overhead.

All I ask from Xbox backwards compatibility is Forza 1 and Blinx the Time Sweeper.

The amount of MS owned IPs that are not used is ridiculous.
Crimson Skies, Conker, Perfect Dark, Blinx, Banjo, Mech Assault, Lost Odyssey... bring at least some of those back please.
