Report: Non-Gamers Largely Unaware of Switch and Scorpio

Report: Non-Gamers Largely Unaware of Switch and Scorpio - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 11 May 2017 / 8,056 Views

Nielsen's US Games 360 Report 2017 has found out that non-gamers are mostly unaware of the Nintendo Switch and Project Scorpio.

Only 22 percent of the general population has heard of the Nintendo Switch, while only 11 percent know what Project Scorpio is. This is in comparison to the 69 percent who are aware of the PlayStation 4 and 61 percent of the Xbox One.

The numbers are even lower for non-gamers. Only seven percent have heard of the Switch and just three percent Project Scorpio. Of non-gamers 52 percent are aware of the PlayStation 4 and 41 percent of the Xbox One.

The survey was conducted in Q1 2017, so it is possible the numbers have improved.

strange article when the poll is from likely BEFORE the Switch was even released. Why would nongamers know about something that wasn't even out? exposure comes from seeing something in real life

To be fair; it says Q1 2017 and the Switch released in the first week of March, so there's still time. Scorpio is no surprise, but neither is low awareness of the Switch among non-gamers. There were quite a few that insisted that it had widespread recognition even after the reveal video, and especially after the January reveal. Static products overall are becoming less and less interesting to the mass market today, this is not some new and shocking turn of events.

Of course little people would know about the switch before it released. The numbers are probably hifgher. Scorpio will probably rise as well

Well I can't say I am surprised about the Scorpio. But I would have tought it was well known a new Nintendo console has launched.

X1 and PS4 have also been out for longer than Switch and Scorpio and have names attached to them that have been around for several years: XBox and PlayStation.

Not even remotely surprised. The Switch has definitely gotten more air time recently but I doubt the numbers are that much higher as of now. Of all my peeps who are into gaming (mostly PC admittedly) the switch/scorpio never comes up and some have PS consoles.
