GameStop: Switch is One of the Most Successful Console Launches in Years - News

The launch of the Nintendo Switch has been the most successful console launch at retailer GameStop in the last several years.

"Stores across the country last night were packed with customers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the brand new Nintendo Switch," said GameStop Senior Director of Merchandising Eric Bright told Game Rant. "We even had customers lining up as early as yesterday morning so that they could be one of the lucky ones to score one of the additional units for our walk-in customers.

"This is one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years. For those fans who are still looking for the Nintendo Switch, don’t worry–we’re getting more. And, we’re pretty sure that there are a lot of gaming fans who pulled all-nighters last night playing their new Switch, and who also called in sick to work today with ‘game-fluenza’ just to stay home and play even more."

The Nintendo Switch sold 80,000 units in its first 48 hours in the UK.

Theoretically, it should. As we know, that hasn't always happened, lol.

Oops, wrong reply.

It's definitely the best console launch of 2017

Hahaha, I wonder if that was intentional on Gamestops part?

"One of the most successful" isn't equal to "the most successful"...

You're right! ^^ That sentence was already discussed a lot ("what does several means?"), so it was a bit weird to see another wording!

Just saying , Xbox One S, PS4 Pro, Slim, PSVR have all launched. I know they're updates but still.

True, but that hasn't always happened. And a console, is a console, is a console. "New" wasn't an aspect of Gamestop's statement.

Semantics at play here. Might as well wait for official numbers since GameStop wants to play the PR Game.

Beating the Wii U is an achievement now? lol

We don't want it to be "another Wii U". Like what some people think.

Wait. This statement makes no sense. What other consoles launched in the past years? None that I'm aware of, and yet the Switch is not the most successful one? So weird.

Well, it's been 3 years since the PS4 came out. So that makes sense :)

I guess they are counting PS4 Pro as a console launch

It's all going to be about the legs though.

And they better put Wii Sports on the eShop soon, so that the good nerds buying into it early can take it to their parents and say "Look, now you don't have to hog the TV to do your bowling!".

I'm pretty sure it's figurative language. We all know we haven't seen a console release since the PS4. Would gamestop actually lie about something we can easily find out in a few days?

I don't know what happened to my comment, but the"most" successful console was what I was alluding to when I wrote my comment. I know I didn't write anything offensive.
