The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Feature Voice Acting, Link to Remain Silent - News

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will feature voice acting, however, Link will remain a silent protagonist, according to series producer Eiji Aonuma who spoke with Polygon.

"It’s really difficult to leave an impression on players with just text," said Aonuma. "It’s not that I made everything voiced. But I have these moments where I want to leave impressions on users. I add voice there."

"If Link said something the user doesn’t agree with, that relationship between the user and Link would be lost," Aonuma added. "That’s why I chose not to go with that."

Another bit of interesting information is the game is taking a bit of science fiction and technology.

"There is a little bit of a sci-fi element to it," he said. "Link basically adventures through a ruined world. I wanted to add technology as the opposite side of that. I thought it would be interesting for Link to use technology to explore through this wild and ruined world. I figured that would add another layer to the game."

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releases in March 2017 for the Wii U and NX.

Link should remain silent, yes. Thank you.

I have no issue with Link being Sioent. Glad voices are in this game.

I would prefer if everyone in the LOZ games had voice acting besides Link. Maybe they should also test the waters with voicing Link as well because if it was a good enough voice then it could only add to his greatness even if it's just bits and pieces every now and then. Charles Martinet should get a crack at it first though!

I guess that means the NPC's won't be voiced then. Sigh. That was a big change I was hoping would be implemented, but judging by that statement only certain parts are voiced.
