Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS) had a strong launch. The game debuted at the top of the Japanese charts for the week ending August 30th, according to Media Create, selling 584,716 units.

Dragon’s Dogma Online Limited Edition (PS4) debuted at number four with sales of 29,316 units, Until Dawn (PS4) debuted at number six with sales of 17,472 units, TV Anime The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls G4U! Pack Vol. 4 (PS3) debuted at number seven with sales of 15,496 units, and Famicom Remix: Best Choice debuted at number eight with sales of 14,079 units.

The Nintendo 3DS was the top selling platform with sales of 48,919 units for the week. The PlayStation 4 sold 18,539 units, and the PlayStation Vita sold 12,125 units, narrowly beating out the Wii U, which sold 11,781 units. The PlayStation 3 sold 2,571 units and the Xbox One sold just 168 units.

Of course it did. Dragon Quest has always been hugely popular in Japan. Plus VIII is easily the best game in the main series...so far :)

While DQVIII is a great game and an wonderful entry, I would have to disagree and say it's more around 3rd or 4th in terms of best in the main series, with III, IV and V fighting for the top spot. That's just IMO though :D

Great sales for the best DQ and one of the best RPGs ever.
The PS2 version is still superior though.

Great opening for a seemingly great game! I'm pretty sure it'll come west at some point, since it was basically already confirmed.
