Analysts: Miyamoto Unlikely to be New Nintendo President

Analysts: Miyamoto Unlikely to be New Nintendo President - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 21 July 2015 / 5,561 Views

Unsurprisingly video game analysts have been quick to speculate on who will succeed Satoru Iwata as Nintendo's new president and most think it unlikely that the creator of some of the most popular Nintendo franchises, Shigeru Miyamoto, will be the next president. Instead, Genyo Takeda looks to be the current front-runner.

"I am pretty sure that the candidate will come from within the business; the very essence of Nintendo games draws from decades of management recognising a market desire for mass market fun," Nick Parker of Parker Consulting told GamesIndustry.

"The obvious two choices are Takeda-san or Miyamoto-san, the former a hardware technology company veteran, the latter, the king of Nintendo first party content. Although it would be a romantic dream to have the company led by the father of Mario, I think Takeda-san has more corporate experience and really understands hardware; it was he who argued for a new interface for the Wii rather than just a faster Gamecube with better graphics."

"Genyo Takeda, who helped Punch-Out and Startropics, was one of the main devs on the Wii, and has a similar trajectory in the company as Iwata (from programmer to manager to executive)," noted the manager of Qualitative Insights at EEDAR, Mike Schramm.

"Takeda is likely a lead candidate for the job. Nintendo also has a number of executives on its board of directors who also could step up into the spot. It's very unlikely that the company would hire someone from outside Japan or from another corporation, as Nintendo doesn't need to (and shouldn't want to) make waves with this appointment. Most likely it'll be a senior Japanese executive at the company, ideally someone who has had a hand in game development at some point."

Thank god. Miyamoto should stick to developing. I can't picture him making business deals

Whait what ? Takeda worked on Startropics ? Duuuude he's the man, he could give us the the FPS Sequel that people have been asking for a loooong time. Now Seriously Miyamoto won't be the new CEO because:
1-he already stated that in a few years he'll drop the job;
2-It would be a crime to not let him develop games in this last few years with the best engines ever made.

If I could pick the new CEO from a well know Nintendo personalities list I would chouse either Bill Trinnen or Satoru Shibata. Bill has been the official translator for Miyamoto for more than 10 years and he also recived a major role in the NOA department. He coul change Nintendo in a more Western-like Company while keeping all the IPs the way they are.
Shibata on the other hand was born in Japan so it would be easier for him to get chosen, plus him beeing Nintendo of Europe CEO atm makes it as he knows that Europe is PS4 centric, and he would try to change the sittuation

If Tekada were chosen (I think he would be the better choice), It would be similar to how Sega chose Hideki Sato to be Sega's President after Isao Okawa died. Sato remained President until the Sega-Sammy merger. Then Sammy's President took over. Both Tekada and Sato were lead hardware guys who had decades of experience at their respective companies.

I'm not by any means saying that Nintendo is going to suffer the same fate as Sega. Unlike Sega, they don't need a merger. Besides, under Sega's leadership between 2001 and 2004, the quality of the games they put out were surprisingly good.

Honestly Miyamoto is better in developing tasks, business decisions should be given to someone else.

If you say so then I guess it must be true. Your arguments are pretty solid.

I highly doubt it. It seems from interviews in the past that he's not interested in that job.
