3DS vs DS – VGChartz Gap Charts – May 2015 Update - Sales

Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. These charts are updated monthly and each article focusses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

3DS Vs. DS Global:

Gap change in latest month: 1,084,984 - DS

Gap change over last 12 months: 18,799,508 - DS

Total Lead: 42,394,719 – DS

3DS Total Sales: 52,966,433

DS Total Sales: 96,361,152

In May the gap grew another 1.08 million units in favor of the DS, and the gap has grown by 18.80 million units in total over the last 12 months. The DS currently leads by 42.39 million units.

The DS first launched in November 2004, while the 3DS launched in February 2011. The 3DS has sold 52.97 million units in the first 52 months, while the DS sold 96.36 million units.

People need to stop pushing mobile so hard. There are very few good mobile games, yet people keep playing them. STOP PLAYING BAD GAMES, PEOPLE.

Unlike the Vita, 3DS managed to keep up well for the first two years against such a predecessor as the DS, which is amazing. But, in the end...

If the market isn't nearly the same as it was then Nintendo should have changed its strategy to keep its share. If we follow your logic the next portable will sell even less and people will say "Honestly, all things considered, the NX Portable is doing incredibly well" till the company goes out of business.
