The global gaming market in 2015 is expected to reach $91.5 billion, which is up from $83.6 billion in 2014, according to a new report published by Newzoo. The market is expected to hit $107 billion in 2017. The growth is spearheaded by China, which is expected to increase sales by 23 percent this year.

Breaking down game sales by market, the 'computer screen' market is by far the biggest with an estimated $33.7 billion. That is a seven percent increase year-over-year. This includes revenue generated from PC games, webgames, and MMOs. The 'entertainment screen' market is expected to reach $25.1 billion. That is a two percent increase when compared to last year. This market includes consoles, TV, and virtual reality.

The 'personal screen' market is expected to grow by 21 percent this year to $20.6 billion. This market includes games for smartphones and watches. The 'floating screen' market, which includes tablets and dedicated handheld platforms, is expected to grow by 14 percent to $12.1 billion. Breaking that down even further, tablet games are expected to grow by 27 percent to $9.4 billion, while handheld gaming is expected to shrink by 16 percent to $2.7 billion.

When we break down the $91.5 billion figure by region, the Asia-Pacific region is by far the biggest with 47 percent of the revenue. It accounts for $43.1 billion of the revenue, which is up by 15 percent year-over-year. The North American market accounts for 26 percent of the revenue, with an increase of three percent to $23.8 billion.

The Europe, Middle-East, and Africa market accounts for 22 percent of the revenue. It is expected to grow by five percent to $20.5 billion. Latin America lags behind the rest of the world with four percent of the total revenue. It is expected to grow by 18 percent in 2015 to $4.08 billion.

Breaking down sales by country, China is expected to surpass the US as the biggest market in the world. China is expected to grow by 23 percent to reach $22.2 billion, while the US is expected to grow by three percent to hit $23.8 billion.

By percentage? Perhaps. A lot of people pirate here so it wouldn't surprise me. By population? Most likely China or India, yes.

But you must remind yourself than even if a whole lot of people pirate (games in this case) there will still be many people spending money on games as well. Given the huge population and the growing middle-class it is not so surprising really.

One of the biggest factors of pirating is that people simply can't afford the product, or at least not all of it.

No, he meant excluding the "casual webgames", the "PC games" market is still bigger than the whole "entertainment screen".
