GameSpy Closing Servers in May - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 05 April 2014 / 3,451 ViewsIf you installed PC games in the 2000's, there's no doubt you would have come across the GameSpy installer at one point or another. Well that service is now shutting down as of May 31.
The middleware was used for players to find the servers they wanted to play their games on, and has failed to gain traction in recent years, with many companies building their own search algorithms or bypassing it completely with games like Titanfall.
GameSpy gave the following statement:
"Effective May 31st 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using Gamespy. If you have any questions about how this impacts your favourite title please contact the game's publisher for more information. Thanks for a great ride!"
The closure will affect over 1,000 games that use GameSpy. You can find a list of those games that will be affected here.
