House: Majority of Sony Didn't Believe PlayStation Would be Successful - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 09 July 2014 / 7,891 Views

Before the launch of the original PlayStation, the console was viewed poorly from a lot of people who work at Sony. Andrew House unveiled this at the Develop Conference attended by MCVUK.

"PSX was viewed extremely negatively from large parts of the corporation," said House. "We were asked to volunteer to be part of it and nobody wanted to volunteer to be part of it except from me."

"When I moved to SCE, my then boss said I was an idiot, why would I want to work on a toy. He said: ‘It will never be a major part of Sony’s business.'"

The majority of the conference was spent discussing the creation of the PlayStation 4, game streaming, and virtual reality.

They are both called PSX, and have both been officially called PSX, just because one came after the other doesn't mean the 1st console called PSX automatically stops being called PSX like it wasn't something that happened. Someone isn't old enough to remember the 90's... Or very much of it anyway.

Thanks for pointing that out it really annoys me people call the PS1 that.

PSX was, for many, the original name for the first PlayStation (as many websites and magazines were calling it PSX at the time), originally (in the '90) was an abbreviation for PlayStation, and many years later Sony created the PSX (japan only), many people don't even know that a PS2 console with DVR functions exists (in fact, do you know that japan has TVs that can play PS2 games ?) so yeah, PSX is a fine abbreviation for the first PlayStation and is cool because it's so '90

Would you stop with that already? The PSOne was called the PSX during it's initial development. It is even referred to as the PSX during 90's official print magazines.

Just because sony made ANOTHER device called the PSX doesn't mean that the PSOne isn't a PSX. It didn't even get the name PSOne until after the slim version came out AFTER the PS2. stop it.
