Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10. As a note all sales figures are retail only.

This week the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature returns with a look at the top 10 selling 3DS games in 2013. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling Wii U games in 2013, and the week before that the top 10 selling Xbox One games in 2013.

Top 10 Selling 3DS Games in 2013

Looking at the top 10 selling 3DS games in 2013, two of the games were released in 2011, two in 2012, and six in 2013. The games released in 2011 one was released in November and one in December. One of the games released in 2012 came out in July and the other in November. The six games released in 2013 were all spread out. They were all released in different month ranging from March to November.

In 2013 the top 10 games sold for the 3DS sold 30.94 million units. The top game, Pokemon X/Y, just missed selling 10 million units with 9.94 million units sold. The top four games sold more than three million units and the top five sold more than two million units. The entire top 10 sold more than one million units.

When you break it down by publisher there are nine first party titles, published by Nintendo, and one third party title. The one third party title, Monster Hunter 4, were published by Capcom.

The nine Nintendo games sold a combined 27.71 million units or 89.6 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one third party titles sold 3.23 million units, or 10.4 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.

 Top 10 Selling 3DS Games in 2013

The top 10 selling 3DS games in 2013 as a graph shows how important one title, Pokémon X/Y, was to the success of the 3DS in 2013. The one title sold nearly one third of all the games sold in the top 10. It is also easy to tell how key Nintendo is to the success of their own consoles.

Side note: There were 10.84 million 3DS’s sold in 2013, with 57.52 million games sold. That would put the attach ratio at 3.54 games sold for each console sold. There were 307 games available for the console at retail.

The top 13 titles all sold more than one million units, while the top 19 titles sold more than 500,000 units. The top 26 titles sold more than 300,000 units and the top 43 titles sold more than 200,00 units.

Nintendo sold the most games for the platform with 34.88 million units. Capcom managed to sell 4.71 million games, Namco Bandai 3.50 million games, Level 1.80 million games, Square Enix 1.72 million games, Warner Bros. 1.28 million games, Sega 1.27 million games, GungHo 1.16 million games, and Activision 1.07 million games.

WOW at Luigi's Mansion. Didn't realize that game was 2013's 3rd biggest. Why can't Fire Emblem sell like that?

Really surprised how low the sales for Zelda were. I know that's still decent for a handheld title but around 2 million puts it as one of the least popular Zelda games. Spirit Tracks sold more than that. And that was arse.
