Activision Lays Off 30 Employees at Treyarch and Other Studios - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 19 February 2013 / 4,423 Views

Activision has laid off about 30 employees from its studios, according to a statement given to Kotaku. A number of the layoffs were at Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops II, as well at studios involved in the development of licensed games.

"Like any successful business, Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues—this is an ongoing process," read the statement. "In 2013, we expect to release fewer games based on license properties and as a result are realigning our structure to better reflect the market opportunities and our slate."

"Approximately, 30 full-time employees have been impacted globally, which represents approximately one half of one percent of Activision Blizzard's employee population. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services."

"Now that we have launched Black Op II, we are taking a minimal reduction in staff to better align our development talent against the needs of DLC development. The release of the DLC will not be impacted by this move."

Unexpected. I'm not sure what the implications are if anyone is kind enough to comment. Does it mean that more DLC will be made per COD game, less iterations of COD will be released? What is the new strategy and why does this lay-off line up with it?

That's right!!! Because Black Ops 2 is such an epic fail. I mean look at it, it's been out 13 weeks and it's failed to sell 25 million on PS360. Abysmal performance. They should shut down Treyarch completely.

Nothing but bad excuses, this is profit maximizing, and it's what these companies are all about. May Activision go broke and all their investors with them.

The primary purpose for every company to exist is to make profits. They do this by satisfying customers, not by providing employment. If a company could profit without employing anyone it would.

you want a company to go broke because they are doing everything they can to make profit so they can stay in business? would you rather they piss away their money like THQ and everyone working there loses their job?

Luckily, people can still pay ~100 dollars for a full CoD game.
