Activision: Call of Duty 2013 to Sell Less than Black Ops II - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 08 February 2013 / 9,255 ViewsActivision spoke at a conference call talking about the companies record setting revenue in 2012. During the call Activision announced a new Call of Duty which is planned to be released during the fourth quarter 2013.
"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher," said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
"There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal years in the cycle. For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the mainline release in Q4 to be down versus 2012," said Activision CFO Dennis Durkin.
Current rumors put the release of the next generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles during the Holiday period this year. Also the next Call of Duty title is rumored to be Modern Warfare 4.

Innovation my ass. COD is the biggest piece of crap on the market, IMO. Each game is the same 5 hour campaign and same MP with different maps and guns.
I wonder how many platforms this game will be available on. NextBox, 360, PS4, PS3, PC, and hopefully WiiU too. Still, Black Ops 2 sales look to fall short of Modern Warfare 3, I expect this game to follow suit, especially with GTA releasing around the same time.
It has to happen.
Call of Duty has plagued the entirety of FPS games.
Campaigns and Multiplayers alike.
I hope COD just disapears
It's going to sell less because not that many people will have a new console, and even if they make a version for the current-gen consoles not many people will be interested in them.
I hope it sells terrible.
Call of Duty hasn't been good since World at War and the first Modern Warfare
I hope it's not Modern Warfare 4. The third one was alright but I want something different than Modern Warfare, please.
Modern Warfare is the best of the Call of Duty franchise. However I would like to see different protagonists.
Activision predicting it's own doom?
I suspect the real reason why Call of Duty in 2013 will sell less than Black Ops 2 is because GTA V is going to sell more, perhaps significantly so. New consoles from Microsoft and Sony have nothing to do with it.
Call of duty is going to slowly disapear like guitar hero.
nnodley: have you even played BO2... it has some nice changes, you should check it out. Like it or not people, CoD will be here to stay for a while :-P
"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation"
I know, one hell of a lot of innovation going on in Call of Duty these days. Modern Warfare 4 no less, such original and innovative idea!
"set the bar for innovation" That made me laugh! I dont know how the guy can say that with a straight face.
With that said, it was smart of them to admit this is gonna happen. It pre-empts the "CoD is dieing" articles that will pop up. Not that i care, but it was sensible.
