Blockbuster US Closing 300 Stores - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 January 2013 / 5,007 Views

Blockbuster troubles continue. While the UK business is currently in administration, the US business is closing 300 stores and cutting about 3,000 jobs. It is not known at this time which stores will be closing.

We continue to see value in the Blockbuster brand and we will continue to analyze store level profitability and -- as we have in the past -- close unprofitable stores," said Dish spokesperson John Hall speaking with CNNMoney.

About 500 stores will remain open across the US. Dish originally bought Blockbuster in 2010 during a bankruptcy auction.

They closed all mine in CT. I didn't know any were left. Since most of these were low paying retail jobs? Not much loss. Sucks for the mgmt team though.

They closed them all in Canada. There are basically no big chains renting movies and games in hardcopy anymore.

Renting games and movies from video stores is fast becoming a thing of the past.
