Draw Something Downloaded 50 Million Times - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 04 April 2012 / 7,793 Views

Draw Something has been downloaded more than 50 million times in just 50 days. It is the fastest growing non-sequel mobile game in history. The game has also retaken the top of the paid downloads list on the iTunes store, from Angry Birds Space which debuted a week ago.

"We believe it's not only the fastest growing original mobile game of all time - 50 days to hit 50 million downloads - but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we've seen," says Zynga. "In addition, the game just regained its spot as the #1 paid app in the App Store, knocking off Angry Birds Space."

The social gaming giant, Zynga, purchased the Draw Something developer Omgpop two weeks ago for around $200 million. At the time the game had been downloaded more than 35 million times.

Shame Zynga bought Omgpop. I hate Zynga.

Think of all the good the founders of Omgpop will do with Zynga's money!

What I find interesting is that it knocked off a newer release, Angry Birds Space, to hit the top spot again.

I think Angry Birds has peaked. Zynga knows that, obviously, as they've been actively reaching out to nab up other developers with fresh ideas (such as these guys).

Uhm, I'm not sure, but it seems you have mixed up Zynga (the Farmville guys) and Rovio (the Angry Bird guys).

But Draw Something isn't really "fresh". It's the same concept that Zynga's already been doing - taking board games and putting them on smartphones. Draw Something is just a mobile partial remake of Pictionary.
