Galga Legions got off to a decent start this week. Nowhere near the sales of Braid, BC, or Geometry Wars, it brings us down to earth to realize what a really good selling game looks like. It hasn't had the masterful start that Geometry Wars or Bionic Commando garnered, at 16,000 units. It is roughly 1,000 units below Braid's first day debut at a $5 lower price point.
With these numbers in mind, Galga Legions should be within striking distance of Ikaruga on the best first week chart.
For the rest of the roundup:
- Fable 2 Pub Games has had a solid 2nd week with what looks to be minimal dropoff. It should hit the 100k mark on it's second week, slightly edging out Geometry Wars 2's 2nd week. However, Fable 2 Pub Games are free as a Fable 2 pre-order bonus, so as always, take the numbers with a grain of salt.
- Bionic Commando: Rearmed has had an incredible drop this week. If these numbers hold true, it's dropping at an incredible rate: Very few games drop over 5% from their first 3 days, to first full Sat-Fri reporting cycle..Not good news for Bionic Commando. Could it be that the fanbase for this classic is truely hardcore?
- Braid dropped as expected, but is projecting toward a very respectable 3rd week. With 17,443 units reported for actuals, this is about 2,000 units higher, week over week, than Geometry Wars 2 in the same timeframe. LTD, Braid stands at 100,641 as of 10am EST, today.
- Geometry Wars 2 was hit with another decently-sized drop this week. It looks to have had a 41.4% drop from last week..It still looks to get very, very close to the 150,000 first month mark. Could Braid rival Geometry Wars 2, however, for best first month?
- 1942: Joint Strike will end it's first month this week. It is projecting to hit just above 47,000 units, which would give it the #10 place on the best first month chart.

I dunno, I think people are being a little harsh on the controls.
The original on NES was one of my favorite games back in the day and it was hard as hell. The controls here seem very faithful to the NES version with more realistic physics. The swing mechanic works well and I don't have much trouble pulling off some pretty crazy moves. I understand they are hard and some of the swings and platform moves required are difficult. If I mistime a swing or miss a ledge it's because my timing was off or I didn't judge the distance, it wasn't because of some fundamental flaw in the game's controls. I really don't see anyway they could have made them any different/better without totally ruining the appeal of the classic game.
Don't get me wrong, I accept your opinion of the game, but I just find it a bit illogical. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it is a remake, and if younger people could play the NES/GB versions at the time, I just don't understand why you'd want to change a formula that worked 20 years ago. If it's not your type of game, well just don't play it I say, but don't come and say that GRIN deserved their game to get such a drop this week.
And by the way, what I meant by ''hold your hands'' was obligatory tutorials at the beginning of many first stages in many new games. In BC:R, this does not happen. You've got to learn everything by yourself or just find the first simulator room in Area 0. It doesn't force you to do the Basic and Advanced tutorials (which you have to find in Area 0 because it isn't on the main menu anyway).
SHMUPGurus Bc does hold your hand. There is a long tutorial for every single move in the game. The problem is simply bad controls. It's like Red steel, sure you could become great at the controls but it didn't change the fact that they were bad.
BC is a great remake in that the graphics are fantastic, lots of content etc etc but theres no use having that if the controls are horrendous. The worst offense though is there are basically zero options for controls (3 different options which just switch the buttons between x,a,b basically). That is simply bad developing. Every game should feature comprehensive controller settings.

I guess GRIN didn't make a good choice to keep real consistency across both the Bionic Commando titles then... I don't want to sound mean or anything, but where is gaming heading? Does a game really have to hold your hands until the end now? It sounds to me like people nowadays are pansies! They want everything to be easy in the first 10 minutes, and if it isn't, they complain! o_o
That, or people just want more FPSs and RPGs...

Not surprised that galaga legions isn't in the same league as braid and gw2 sales wise. Which is unfortunate as I really enjoyed the demo. Castle Crashers will be amazing though. I'll definitely try and get some money together for that one.
Good BC:rearmed deserves to drop. I bought it after all the amazing reviews and it is awful. People keep saying it's a 'hardcore' game but the reality is the controls are simply awful.
