Counter Strike: Global Offensive Announced - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 12 August 2011 / 4,478 Views

Valve, who everyone will know as the creators of hit game franchises such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, and recently Portal, have today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) according to the press release will :

Expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago.  CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content. In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

CS: GO is due to release in early 2012 and will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and Steam. Doug Lombardi, VP of Marketing at Valve had a few words to share regarding the announcement of Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999. For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.

What do you think of this news? Are you an avid Counter-Strike fan who is elated to hear that you will be getting an all new, updated version of a great game? Maybe you are someone who hasn’t played CS before who now has the opportunity to get stuck in? Or you might just be slightly annoyed Valve is spending time on this instead of giving us a new Half-Life installment. Seriously, when is that happening?

Counter-Strike is coming back to consoles! I loved it on the original Xbox- no mods, no hacks, and hardly any exploits were discovered until long after its popularity decreased. This is a great announcement. If PSO 2 comes out next year along with this, I'll have my multiplayer craving completely nourished.

I really hope they have local multiplayer on the console version! It would be great to have a few drinks and play CS:GO with friends

CS relies heavily on the accuracy of keyboard and mouse combination. Had CS on Xbox and it sucked with the controller. As a huge fan of CS1.6 I have to say that I'll only be interested if keyboard and mouse support is included - Otherwise its better to stick to the PC version.

just announced it will have cross platform play haahha can we say valve is trying to prove a point that a controller isnt as good as a mouse and keyboard when it comes to FPS games lol

This isn't a remake....

Very STUPID comment given the fact that in this very site Valve's philosophy was revealed. It was stated that the entire Valve team's input was taken into consideration when making a team, meaning that collectively they would decide on what they wanted to do. Valve has been successful because of this, so if they do not want to work on HL they won't!!! Deal with it. CS is one of those few games that after nearly 12 years it averages about 67k ish users a DAY. Furthermore, this isn't a remake.

I'm not sure if you know what's going on here... but I was quoting the article (which you may not have read). I'm guessing you also didn't read the comment I made which was "This isn't a remake" (in reference to CS:GO). Honestly why bother typing anything if you can't read?

wow this is going to be huge on pc if they make it easily playable and dont change too much to the gameplay. the console versions wont sell its been shown in the past with CS:CZ that is why source was a pack in with the orange box and still wasnt played on consoles.
