The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. I really have no idea how any video game system will ever top what NSW accomplished in JP. Steady legs for nearly a whole decade. It sold well every week, never dipping too far below 50k/wk. If there is a system that’ll top it, my guess is that it would have to be the successor. Off to a very big lead that’ll likely grow over the next couple of years. Whether it can maintain similar consistency — especially with the current state of the global economy — it’s impossible to say.

I think that given the newest patent from Nintendo (attachable second screen), the Switch 2 will overtake Switch sales in Japan easily.

That’s certainly plausible! Though the question of whether Nintendo will actually make use of these patents is still a big question mark…many patents don’t typically lead to anything; e.g. Nintendo Phone (US Patent 7069044) from the early 2000s, the OG NX controller patent, the patent of giving Joy Cons hinges, the Wii Robot, etc. Most patents are filed whenever a company has an innovative idea worth entertaining.

Very true, but I don’t see another use for the USB-C port except for the Game Chat Camera and charging. Seems like a “DS & 3DS” emulation for the Switch would be a huge success, and they have the capability to do so under NSO new console additions. They have GB & GBA and GCN, let’s hope they decide to add DS and 3DS.

I’d like to add that the mouse movement of the Joycon 2 is reminiscent of the Wiimote. Could the Switch 2 bring all of Nintendo’s Consoles and Handhelds together under one generation?

Unlikely. What the Switch accomplished in Japan is already crazy. But, considering the falling population and anemic birthrates of the past decade, it's difficult to imagine Nintendo's market expanding past 36m this generation. To put that into context, 36m is nearly 1/3 of the population. To reach those sorts of numbers, Nintendo would have to really go hard on hardware revisions/special editions this generation.

I'm guessing around 30m sold for the Switch 2 lifetime in Japan.
